it's only so you can see it... if he simply added it into the price of the meal it'd be the same thing but you wouldn't know why

Why is this controversial? Is the owner supposed to take the hit without raising prices? That dirty capitalist!

I like having my taxes printed on my phone bill. They’re deductible.

All your points are valid.

By showing specific cost increase, the proprietor is
trying to show customers who is to blame for the higher
cost of product...the politicians running the state.

Minimum wage hikes do not increase state taxes much at all.
It is a way to show consumer it is not necessary, it is
counter-productive most of the time.

Where did you get the idea a business is a philanthropic entity?
It is strictly a BUSINESS! It’s purpose is to
produce a product or service which has demand in the marketplace.
And the business must make a profit to survive and continue.

If the minimum wage is too low, no one will want to work there.
The market place will then require higher wages.

You are thinking like a bleeding heart liberal with no
sense of real world open market capitalism.

Servers are only the end of the process of getting food to the customer. Those folks in the back room are paid. The vendors bringing the supplies are paid. All those added up will increase the cost of the food. Yes, it's not complicated.

The server who received none of that minimum wage increase will sure be happy with your mis-aimed revenge.

As a life-long bookkeeper, mostly for small businesses, I would have recommended such from the first hour I had to pay it.

Not really when a business owner looks out for vacation more than he does his business I have a prob! 30 years for me and one vacation but I did not raise my rate to achieve status quo! Looks like the Customer is taking care of pleasure instead of the owner keeping the doors open! Go pay your surcharge it’s your pleasure!

Yes,, it depends on where you live, and in the South most earn less than minimum wage....tips are considered part of their pay and they pay income tax on a portion of them that they report...or used to. Some restaurants charge a 10 or 15% gratuity for the tip, but not all and it wasn’t policy a long time ago.

Tips diminish in hard times, so a gratuity helps. Each state is different I suppose.

I expect all states will follow suit or at least pay minimum wages, as tips decline in hard times, or go to the gratuity of 10 or 15%,

Every hard working person needs a vacation.

Our hard working president (that is what he says all the time) has just recorded 100 rounds of golf, several weeks in Marths’s vineyard and Hawaii, already!

Surely the restaurant owner deserves a 1 or 2 week vacation?

I like the idea of including 10-15% service charge on all bills. 10% for self service buffets and 15% for waiter service.
