McDonald's boomed when the Great Rescission hit but I guess even low income people are finding it hard to go to McDonald's. McDonald's got addicted to $1 menu items and now it is paying the price.

There are healthy lunch special alternatives everywhere. McDonalds is the enemy.

They’re finding they can’t afford the health repercussions.

No doubt stores in the Denver and Seattle areas aren’t seeing this kind of decline.

As the 1 dollar menu becomes the 1.50 or more menu expect this trend to continue...

It will accelerate if they make a McJob wage be 15 an hour.... Well until they perfect the robots...

I was in drive through to get my McIcedCoffee the other day and could smell that reekign stench of pot from the car in front of me....

I am part of the reason that McDonalds sales are down. I stopped going there for 3 major reasons:

1. They converted the nice big store close to me into a dinky drive through with very limited seating. Buy a hamburger and look around for a seat. No thanks.

2. They dropped their top of the line burger. It was getting too expensive. The old lower the quality of your product to keep the price down strategy. Another No Thanks.

3. Del Taco is a much better deal. Better food. Better price. And they have a bargain basement priced Crunchtada - a thick fried corn tortilla tostada that never breaks when you bite into it.

I suspect I am not alone.

if grocery stores have seen an increase, then people are opting for cheaper food

of course, having so many people on unemployment also means they won’t spend at McD’s

I haven't had McDonald's since the chippie behind the counter couldn't get my order right...after I had to tell her twice what I wanted. She was more interested in chatting with her co-worker than in customer service.

And it's people like her who want to be paid $15 per hour.

Chick-Fil-A is forecasted to take the number 1 spot in fast food chains.

I can see why. CFA has nice, courteous people - without pouty attitudes- managers that care about the business and the customers, and, good food. It’s always a clean, friendly atmosphere.

Micky-D’s, on the other hand - has slurries to the bottom of the barrel over the years, hiring incompetents as the food quality sinks lower and lower. Haven’t been to McD’s in years, never intend to go back. Ditto for KFC.

I’ve done my share to contribute to their woes; I stopped taking the kids there after events because it was much too expensive, and if I grab anything there now it is from the dollar menu (I used to be a junkie; now I brown-bag it). Back in the day I used to go to a nearby Burger King (with my own drink) and from the drive-through I’d order a burger, small fries, and small chicken nuggets from the $ menu. I’d be stuffed for $3.21 (including taxes); how long can they stay in business with bottom-feeders like me as a customer?

Most people don't eat off the $1 menu anyway. They go to McDonald's and pay a lot of money for a "meal" of full-sized burger, fries, drink. Eventually many figure out Chipolte (among others) offer a real meal that consists of actual food and it's no more expensive.

For my diet and budget a McChicken no bread and two apple slice packets for a total of $2 makes a very nice lunch.

Ill always pick del Taco over McDonalds. Every time I go to a McDonalds, the tables are filthy and there’s garbage on the floor. At least the DT near my house the kids are really nice - mostly, they keep the place clean and get all the sticky cleaned up

When I was a fast-food regular it was just understood that once every ten visits your order would be screwed up; it seemed there were no Americans (of any color) working there, and things were probably lost in transation.

These problems for these chains won’t be going away any time soon; the underlying problems aren’t improving. If Big Business simply thought they’d sell things to Asia instead, they naively believed that Asians would have our previous standard of living. The whole point in shipping jobs to Asia was so they WOULDN’T HAVE TO PROVIDE THAT STANDARD OF LIVING for workers.

Bingo! We have a winner!

McDonald's prices have increased so much over the last year that there are now better, less expensive choices.

McDonald's doesn't have to look any further than to its price increases. It's very simple. When prices go up, sales go down.
