U.S. Approves Airstrikes on Iraq, Airdrops Aid Bid to Protect Refugees Fleeing Extremists

By JULIAN E. BARNES in Washington and NOUR MALAS in Erbil, Iraq CONNECT Aug. 7, 2014

*President Obama: U.S. Military Authorized to Make Targeted Airstrikes in Northern Iraq

President Barack Obama authorized the U.S. military on Thursday to make targeted strikes against Islamist militants in northern Iraq, and began an emergency airdrop of water and food to members of a religious minority trapped in the mountains by advancing Islamist militants, U.S. officials said.

"I authorized targeted airstrikes if necessary to help forces in Iraq," Mr. Obama said in an national address at the White House. ""There is no decision that I take more seriously than the use of military force."

Mr. Obama, acknowledging the war wary public, said the U.S. will not deploy any American ground troops or be drawn into another Iraq war.

A U.S. official said roughly 70 pallets of water and meals-ready-to-eat were dropped into the mountains were the Yazidis, an ethnically Kurdish religious minority, were taking refuge. Pentagon officials watched video the airdrops, conducted by both C-17 and C-130 cargo planes, recorded from an overhead surveillance plane. The cargo planes were escorted by American fighter jets, officials said.

The sudden acceleration of U.S. military activity reflected White House concern over a burgeoning crisis in the semiautonomous Kurdish region of Iraq as the militant group calling itself Islamic State closed in on the area and pressed an offensive against local forces, seizing areas long considered safe. Militants on Thursday took over the Mosul Dam, the country's largest, according to a local resident.

Obummer gives orders:

1, deliver pizzas and sodas to hostages surrounded by bank robbers

2. do not shoot at the robbers unless they shoot at you first.

“All we are saying, is give peace a chance”

Why is he acting unilaterally?

What is the “imminent” threat to the US?

Why not give sanctions a to work?

We can not act unless France and Russia agree.

"and he repeated his promise that the United States would not send ground troops back to that country."

Dear Isis, please continue to kill all non-muslims. As I've promised, I will not get in your way. But please steer clear of pissing off the stupid Christians here tooooo much as the dumbest of them are keeping my approval ratings above 40 - raping and killing their children isn't all they're good for.

Rootin' for ya,

U.S. Approves Airstrikes on Iraq, Airdrops Aid [Too Little, Too Late!]

That headline sure has it right!

The golfing Abomanation either forgot his own speeches from the recent past, or forgot to read the newspapers or watch the TV news.

Or lied miserably when he said he "knows" what's going on before the news are disseminated to us peons. Yet he did nothing about it until a small problem becomes a giant one.

This is incompetence rising to the level of criminal negligence or war crime by acquiescence.

The worst, most incompetent, totally unprepared president in U.S. history is sure cementing the sorriest legacy in American governnce in history. Repeating the incompetence, over and over of closing the barn door not only after the horse has escaped, but is approaching some country overseas...

Even the few totally corrupt presidencies didn't preach the holier-than-thou "we're better than that" bullshit* this sorry excuse for a man force-feeds us daily!

Apparently Iraq pleaded for at least drone strikes when ISIS was about to begin their long barbaric voyage of slaughter across swaths of the northwestern region of Iraq but his “politics” did not allow him to act swift and decisively. This man is a disgrace to all of American history. That so much as 40% still approve him is symbolic of this nation’s corrupt polity.

Isis is now beheading children. I’m sure obama is doing something because he doesn’t want he’s poll numbers to drop. He has no compassion, he’s a physcopath.

ISIS will wind up getting everything they dropped.

But hey, it’s the thought that counts, as long as liberals show that they “care”, that’s all that matters.

The way the information has come out I suspect the military initiated the airdrops and strikes a couple of days ago and told the Emir he had better take credit for it.

The President is adopting a UN strategy. Drop food to folks after they are expelled from their homes. Unless the food crates contain m-16s, grenades, and armor it’s useless.
