As negotiations begin, Obama sides with Hamas

Israel has agreed to extend a ceasefire that ended a month of fighting in Gaza beyond its Friday expiration date, the Jerusalem Post reports. However, Hamas says it will resume fighting unless significant progress is made in negotiations.

For Hamas, significant progress means significant concessions on its demands for money, an end to Israel’s blockade, and access for Gaza’s Palestinians into Israel. If the past is any guide, Hamas would use the money and the blockade to rearm, and use access into Israel to conduct terrorism.

President Obama seems to side with Hamas. At a press conference today, he essentially parroted Hamas’ demands.

Obama stated that Gaza cannot remain closed off and needs help so it can rebuild. These are Hamas’ core demands. If they are met, Hamas has accomplished the objectives for which it started this war, and will be in an improved position to attack Israel in the future.

Obama claims not to sympathize with Hamas, but his substantive positions belie that assertion, which itself is a non-condemnation and thus far too soft.

Obama insisted that ordinary Palestinians living in the impoverished, blockaded Hamas-ruled territory need to have some prospects for an opening of Gaza so that they do not feel walled off. But they do have that prospect if they throw out Hamas, renounce terrorism, and back up the renunciation through their conduct.

But from all that appears, Obama sees continued Hamas rule as a given. And the “peace plan” he envisages, in which Hamas’ core demands are met, would all but ensure continued Hamas rule. Objectively, this amounts to sympathy — and more — for Hamas.

This won’t go down well with the Palestinian Authority and its supporters, who would like to see Hamas defeated. Accordingly, Obama offered them a sweetener — renewed peace talks regarding the West Bank, in which Israel will be pressured to make territorial concessions.

In short, as I predicted last night, Israel will be asked to make concessions both to Hamas — which it defeated militarily — and the PA — which was not even a party to the hostilities.

I hate to say it, but if the alternatives are discontinuation of the cease fire and significant negotiating progress along the lines Obama described, perhaps it’s best if Hamas breaks the current cease fire.

At this point Egypt is a better ally of Israel than the US. Israel and Egypt both want to destroy Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. Obama and Kerry help the terrorists at every turn and want the Muslim Brotherhood back in charge in Egypt.

I don’t understand why Israel is not insisting on unconditional surrender, and the delivery of the Hamas leadership for imprisonment and/or execution.

I don’t understand what Israel expects to gain from this pointless and dangerous game of agreeing to cease fires.

Obama sees continued Hamas rule as a given.

Of course he does. They are his people, living his dream of killing everyone opposed to them while proclaiming themselves "victims."

This is the price Israel has to pay for US resupply of weapons. BHO said I’ll resupply but you have to give Hamas (Muslim Brotherhood) etc.

Odumbo stated, “When the winds of war blow, I will side with Muslims every time”.............(or something like that)

Guess this continues to hold true.

Odumbo needs to stay on the golf course and stay out of foreign relation issues, especially Israel’s. He has NO BUSINESS at any negotiating table nor do the ilk whom he selects as his mouth piece(s).

I liked the statement made by Israel’s leader, “Don’t ever second guess me again”. At least someone had the gonads to tell him like it is.

EVERYTHING obama does either:
a) Weakens America/Americans
b) Distances America's allies
c) Strengthens America's enemies
d) Serves Islam
e) Harms Israel
Or some combination of the above.
I have yet to have anyone raise a single substantive counter example in several years of posting this.

I think Israel agrees to the short term cease fires because they are relatively harmless to their goals, they are good PR, and they probably do have positive effects on the civilians. They may even be sources of good intel. During the cease fire watch for where there is out of the ordinary activities.

I guarantee you the Israelis placed a lot of remote sensors while they were in Gaza.

Some tunnels were probably left in place while their exit points are being monitored by sensors.

Is what I would do...

‘It’s a Bloody War Crime!’ Krauthammer Slams Obama for Calling Hamas ‘Irresponsible’

by Josh Feldman | 7:29 pm, August 6th, 2014 video 470

Towards the tail end of his press conference today, President Obama said Hamas “acts extraordinarily irresponsibly” when it fires rockets from civilian areas. This wording really set off both Charles Krauthammer and Ron Fournier on Fox News today, who were both just stunned at this rather understated wording.

Krauthammer described Obama’s comments as “lethargic and disinterested and detached.” And as for that “irresponsible” line, Krauthammer said, “It’s a bloody war crime! I mean, there’s no passion, there’s no interest, there’s nothing behind it.”

See video at:

And Hamas replied to Obama with a few minutes of Frank Sinatra......

Good idea. Use some tunnels you "missed" as bait. See who shows up. Start tracking/backtracking these people, find associates...

This isn't about destroying tunnels, it is about destroying the people who want to destroy Israel. ;-)

(AP) Hitler Calls for 24-Hour Humanitarian Ceasefire
The Allied invasion at Normandy has claimed the lives of nearly 10,000 French civilians. Mr. Hitler’s reasonable request would allow the injured to be treated and for civilians to evacuate. Also, in 24 hours fresh Panzer divisions would arrive for training purposes.
