Immigrants have helped pay the nation’s bills, at least when it comes to health care, according to a new report. Immigrants contributed over $182 billion to Medicare’s Hospital Insurance Trust Fund between 1996 and 2011, according to a study released by the Partnership for a New American Economy, a group which advocates for immigration reform.
The study found during that same 15-year period, U.S.-born citizens produced a $68.7 billion deficit for the same fund.
The Partnership for a New American Economy, a coalition of mayors and business leaders started by Michael Bloomberg and Rupert Murdoch.

I assume thats legal immigrants?
Even if true, which I doubt, this is a totally stupid and misleading report. Immigration to the US from the 1920s to 1965 was around 200,000 per year. After 1965, it was raised several times, with a large increase coming during the GHWB administration to around 800,000 per year.
So, immigrants were a small part of the US population for most of the 20th century, and only became more significant late in the century and the early 21st century.
So, this deliberately misleading report means most immigrants who’ve come here in the past 30 or so years were younger, and those who were employed would naturally pay into Medicare for as few decades before they reached retirement age.
But, they’ll begin making up for it as more retire, probably starting about now.
And I bet the amount of fraudulent EITC and child credits paid to illegals make up for a big chunk of any Medicare contribution, not to mention medical care expense, education and all the government support programs accessed by immigrants, legal and illegal.

Very disingenuous article. They purposefully do not mention legal or illegal and bunch them together as if there is no difference. Nor do they fail to mention the illegals that do not pay into FICA end up bankrupting the public hospital system in the nation. The few bucks collected from illegals through FICA for medicare is far outweighed by the expense of treating them for free in the nation’s emergency rooms.
Illegals aren’t supposed to be covered by ObamaCare, not that that matters to this president. Joe Wilson was right, of course, when Obama said in the 2010 State of the Union speech that illegals wouldn’t be covered, and Joe Wilson shouted “You lie!” The Obamedia had a cow, but he was right.

They don’t cost Medicare very much at all. They cost Medicaid and private hospitals hundreds of billions.
Non starter, I’ve paid into Medicare my entire working life and haven’t cost it a dime. If they’re paying social security and medicare taxes there is an assumption that they have a social security card and are either a citizen or committing identity fraud.
If by ‘immigrant’ they mean ‘illegal’ I don’t care. Send them home. It’s like telling me Mexican Drug Cartels contribute to local Texas economies. Sick. If they’re illegals they need to take their ‘contribution’ and go home.
