Hollywood star Beau Bridges has attacked the proliferation of firearms in the United States while praising former White House press secretary James Brady for his battle to impose greater government gun controls.
He added, Why would any civilian want a weapon that sprays bullets at such a rapid rate? Certainly not to use for hunting or target shooting.

Sgt.: Pointed stick? Oh, oh, oh. We want to learn how to defend ourselves against pointed sticks, do we? Getting all high and mighty, eh? Fresh fruit not good enough for you eh? Well I'll tell you something my lad. When you're walking home tonight and some homicidal maniac comes after you with a bunch of loganberries, don't come crying to me! Now, the passion fruit. When your assailant lunges at you with a passion fruit.."

Why would any civilian want a weapon that sprays bullets at such a rapid rate? Well, If I didn't have armed security 24/7, I might want one to defend myself & family from someone trying to kill us.

Jim Brady is a genuinely tragic figure. First, much of his brain was destroyed in the 1981 assassination attempt on President Reagan. Then to add insult to injury, his wife paraded his still breathing remains around the country to support a Leftwing attack on American liberty. Any decent person, regardless of any ideological bent, should have been repulsed by that crass behavior--the crudest form of exploitation of misery, by someone posing as a loyal mate.
Beau Bridges should stick to the lines brighter writers write for his movie roles, and otherwise keep his mouth shut. Or does he really want to have the image that these remarks give him?

I believe so, but with special ammo that probably totally wiped out Brady's capacity to actually reason, after receiving the head shot. (Perhaps apt, in the context of a Hollywood type hyping the later misuse of Brady's body by his wife, it was Hinkley's form of a love statement over his obsession for Jodie Foster.)
If you want to rationally analyze the whole incident, it was probably merciful for all present that the mental case, making the "love statement" had access to a handgun, rather than hurl a "molotov cocktail" or the equivalent at the President. But, of course, there is nothing remotely rational about the argument for making hand guns unavailable to law abiding citizens. The "arguments" are directed at fawning irrational fear, and Mrs. Brady used Jim like Edgar Bergen used Charley McCarthy in the 1940s, as part of a prepared act. But Bergen's only motive was to entertain. Mrs. Brady's is really not that clear.

Years ago, I saw an interview of Lloyd Bridges. The one thing I remember is him saying, “My sons are idiots”.
