Below-Average Temperatures Leave Some With Summertime Sadness
CBS New York ^ | August 1, 2014 6:38 PM | Cindy Hsu

Posted on 08/04/2014 9:20:53 PM PDT by TBP

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The area is on track for our coolest summer since 2009, but that’s leaving some people with seasonal depression, CBS 2’s Cindy Hsu reported. Staten Island high school seniors Gabriell Vinci and Antoinette DiStefano said summer is going by way too fast.

“It’s very depressing,” Vinci said.

Even though summer is only halfway over, Donna Barnes said she is feeling the frantic rush.

“I have to admit, I’ve got a little bit of a panic of like there’s so many things that I wanted to do that I haven’t done yet,” Barnes said.

Barnes said she is trying to slow things down with pictures; she snapped one of the green trees in Central Park during the summer in the same spot she took a picture of snow-covered trees back in February.

Psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert said this year’s summer sadness has a lot to do with the weather.

“Following the long, cold winter, they just expected a really long, hot summer, so they’re not seeing that,” Alpert said.

As CBS 2 reported, this July was the coolest one the area has seen in five years and so far, there have been no heat waves.

Back-to-school sales are already in full swing and best friends Anya Milberg and Lyla said they feel the summer rush.

“It goes really fast because then suddenly you’re back at school and then you’re like, ‘Oh no, winter is coming, it’s going to be so cold,’” 10-year-old Anya said.

Candice Hoyes said she is feeling it too, especially with her daughter growing up so fast and at summer day camp for the first time.

“It does feel shorter, it feels like it flew by,” Hoyes said.

Meanwhile, children like James keep dreaming and told CBS 2 he wants the summer to last a whole year.

Must be global warming. I expect Algore to show up any minute now.

But seriously, these same people are probably part of the global warming crowd, even though there has been no warming for 17 years. This is one more piece of evidence that global warming is a fraud and a hoax.

I’m liking the 70 degree weather more than the 90 degree with humidity we usually get in New York.

Exactly why I moved. When summer lasts well until November, I have finally had enough. Then a few months of what I consider cold (80 or below) and I am glad to see 90 plus temps again.

We had virtually no spring in NY. Cool and wet. Planting was about 3 weeks behind.

I love a cooler summer. It’s been so pleasant here in Chicagoland (the burbs).

“Idiot Global warming whackjobs.”

The article reads as if it were written for a 9 year old, kind of like Her Thighness writing “It takes a Millage.”

I guess I don’t see the surprise here. After all, the global warmists have been telling us for decades that global warming would makes things cooler. Oh, wait, it was only RECENTLY that the global warmists have been telling us global warming would make things cooler. You know, because things got cooler instead of warmer.

Absolutely!

Those friends of mine who dream of summer always end up complaining about the heat when it comes around.

When I was a teenager, I was waiting at a bus stop one winter night with the temperature around twenty degrees.

I thought very carefully of what it felt like during a New York City heat wave, and decided I preferred the freezing bus stop.

poor babies!

What are they going to do when the cookie really crumbles... when crops die in the field, the power grid fails, no gas at the pump, and the ATMs don’t work ?

When will this oncoming devastation of psychic destruction make the front page of the NYSlimes, with “Obola” striding to the teleprompter for a speech certain to “buck them up”, promising rainbows, perfect weather, and Vineyard “vacays” for all?

It must be Bush’s fault, right?

Actually the North East and the entire country are really dodging a bullet this summer thanks to the cool weather.

With all of the coal plants decommissioned since last year we would be in the midst of rolling blackouts if we were having a hot summer.

We had better hope for a cool summer next year too, because more coal plants are slated for decommissioning before next summer and there are no plans to replace them.

Almost over and hardly any riding.

Summer memories let me survive the bleak winters.

I have too few, this time.

My sentiments exactly. I hate the humidity in NJ. I’m actually able to sleep this summer. :)
