House moves toward vote on border deal (Senate Conference in Aug, Mass Amnesty in Sept?)

After a day of embarrassing failures, House Republican leadership inched toward bringing a new emergency funding bill for the border crisis to the floor Friday.

The new legislation — described to GOP lawmakers in a closed-door meeting in the Capitol — uses revised language from Texas Rep. John Carter, Alabama Rep. Robert Aderholt and Georgia Rep. Jack Kingston to change a 2008 trafficking law that made it harder to deport children from countries other than Canada and Mexico.

The bill is more costly than than the legislation that had to be yanked from the floor Thursday. The latest version sends $35 million to governors to pay for the National Guards units involved in responding to the crisis, boosting the price tag to $694 million — still a far cry from the nearly $4 billion President Barack Obama requested. It is fully offset by spending cuts, GOP sources said.

The House will also hold a separate vote that significantly reins in President Barack Obama’s power to shield undocumented immigrants from deportations — teeing off a popular 2012 administration initiative that protected so-called “Dreamers.”

Lawmakers and aides said the language regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals is being changed so the roughly 550,000 current beneficiaries, who are granted a two-year reprieve from deportations, will be blocked from renewing their status in the program. That essentially makes hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants eligible for deportations.

Looks like Harry Reid and Charles Schumer will get their chance to add their Gang of 8 Amnesty bill in conference. And John Cornyn and John McCain will be working side-by-side with them. It's over.

It's over.

You could not be more correct. It's not only over for amnesty but it is over for the America that I grew up in the 1950s.

I wish dueling were brought back on the House and Senate floors. Boehner would then have more to worry about than just where his next payoff and drink were coming from.

to change a 2008 trafficking law that made it harder to deport children from countries other than Canada and Mexico

And they are sticking to the same old lies. The bill is about trafficking not people, and yes even children, who are coming here voluntarily. As usual the Democrats have ‘interpreted’ the bill to say it means something it does not and the Republicans have picked up their language.
Bunch of fricken idiots.

The extra money and the Dream Act changes are in two separate bills. That means the Senate can pick one and not the other when they reconvene. This is a cave. It is just conservative optics.

The September conference would be about extra money, not amnesty.

I can't see amnesty in September with the Central American invasion going on.

So, this is theater for the midterms.

The money and other nonsense ARE together in the first bill that will go to conference with Reid and Cornyn and the Gang of 8 Amnesty Bill. The are not separate.

The separate bill is only about stopping Obama’s executive amnesty, nothing else. It will not even be read in the Senate.

For $700mil. they could buy 2-3 jumbo jets( go to the boneyard and get a really good deal on some 757s, my favorite) and fly the illegals back.
Should be able to get 3 trips/day, times 3 planes. 2-3000/day.

Deal or no deal? Remember, compromising with bad policy is like adding just a little sewage to your drinking water.
