The thing is, when a patient has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, the goal is to extend his or her life as long as possible.

OK, who pays?

I’m pro-free market, Jim Noble. But, the UK has a system of socialized medicine. There, the NHS is covering elective cosmetic surgery that’s unrelated to illness, but it won’t cover treatments for the two terminally ill patients in the story. I think you and I agree that there’s something wrong with that picture. And it seems as if the U.S. is headed down the same road.

Here is an idea, if it elective cosmetic surgery, let the “patient” pay.
