Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

The disease is usually acquired when a person comes into contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected animal such as a monkey or fruit bat. Fruit bats are believed to carry and spread the virus without being affected by it. Once infection of a human occurs, the disease may be spread from one person to another. Men who survive may be able to transmit the disease via their semen for nearly two months. To make the diagnosis, typically other diseases with similar symptoms such as malaria, cholera and other viral hemorrhagic fever are first excluded. The blood may then be tested for antibodies to the virus, or the viral RNA, or the virus itself, to confirm the diagnosis.[1]

Prevention includes decreasing the spread of the disease from infected monkeys and pigs to humans. This may be done by checking these types of animals for infection and killing and properly disposing of the bodies if the disease is discovered. Properly cooking meat and wearing protective clothing when handling meat may also be helpful, as is wearing protective clothing and washing hands when around a person who has the disease. Samples of bodily fluids and tissues from people with the disease should be handled with special caution.[1]

Driving home from NYC last night, I heard a quick story on WABC top-of-the-hour news that the Health Department had "alerted doctors and other health providers to immediately report anyone they suspect might have the disease."

They have also dispatched "quarantine officers" to LGA, JFK, and EWR.

Here's one story on it.

You KNOW Baraq is doing everything he can to introduce Ebola into the U.S. It would be his dream come true. Meanwhile, he, the Wookie, Mama Robinson, and Sharia and Malaria would get to flee the country on AF-1 to a safe location. And of course, the elitist in this country have their offshore safe havens to flee to.

According to all of the information that has been published, 700+ dead seems like a small number considering the numbers really infected and the measures that some are taking as a precaution. The physicians on site are stating it is out of control which means this is the beginning of a significant outbreak and epidemic. I think the numbers will change exponentially within the next few days as the infection/outbreak spreads and the medical community is overwhelmed.

I posted the following on another thread maybe somehere can comment:
Someone here who might know more on this stuff.
Is true and/or possible that if Ebola were to spread, it would continue to mutate and that it would become less deadly as that mutation happens is larger population areas?

DC(El Presidente) should cancel the African Leaders Summit scheduled in town this weekend and next week. That’s all we need is these folks and their support staff from these countries here. Of course, the WH is assuring everyone that there is no danger, but they do have a troubling past with telling the truth.

Actuarially speaking, 1300 confirmed cases is statistically insignificant. Particularly, given that there’s no evidence that the virus is spreading beyond the small area in which it can be found.

What we have here is another summer of the shark.

Ebola and every other one of these African diseases have been around for centuries. The used to just lump them into an all purpose name of “Jungle Fever”. Everyone knew that if you ventured into some of these areas you’d get “Jungle Fever”. Now the populations there are blooming and the chances of contact massively greater, so now we have started naming the various jungle fevers, of which Ebola is just one. I wonder which one will be the next dire global epidemic threat.

Ebola is both clever and horrifying.

Just a drop of sweat, saliva or blood touching your skin will infect you. Merely touching someone that has it will give you Ebola.

Ebola turns an infected person into a sort of ‘volcano’ of body fluids. The person shakes violently, all while blood and sweat is pouring from their skin, mucous membranes and even pores. This blood, vomit, saliva and sweat is violenty spewn all across the room where the person is convulsing. Just one drop touches another human and bingo... they now have it.

Horrifying disease really.
We should build a wall around Africa until it’s over.
