We are among the lucky ones we have no credit card debt or debt of any kind but that does stop the robo calls daily about our *nonexistent “credit card debt”. They are driving me crazy!

Because the dems want to steal other people’s money to bail them out of their bad life choices...
Exact same situation with me, only different phone company. U.S. Cellular in my case. They are all alike, lying, cheating thieves.
They gave up on me after 5 or 6 years of billing and threatening me. Yet another reason to never give your bank account routing number to anyone for "automatic bill pay".
The collection companies offer to settle for 10 cents on the dollar for something they bought for pennies on the dollar. You pay then they sell the remaining debt to another collection company which can be the same company but under another name then you start getting more letters asking you to settle again. BTW if you acknowledge them in anyway then they can now report you to credit agencies even if the debt is past the 7 years limit.
Minnesota sued one company and won a lot of money. These collection companies have multiple names.
Depending on your phone company, you may be able to block them.

Agreed. You can't even depend on your bank to close off these automatic payments if directed. Some will give you the runaround and claim they need sign off from the payee. Others will tell you that it takes a month or more to be effective.
If anyone has fallen in this trap, the safe thing to do is close the account and reopen another account (if you like the bank) or go elsewhere. They cannot automatically deduct from an account which does not exist.
You got it. If you decide to check out of the “responsible credit user” game, tell ALL of them to pound sand. Tell them if they show up to your door, you’ll give them one of two things: cash or the point of a gun.
I have tried to block them I just got a letter from the phone company telling me the calls I get are not illegal and they can’t do anything to stop them.
I recently rented a car for a week and 1/3 of the total was fees and taxes. Ridiculous.
Lotta bums out there. OTOH, many routine billing disputes get turned over to collection agencies.
I’m about to have this problem with Comcast. My wife called them 3 weeks ago and told them to cancel service at the end of the billing cycle. That would have been on the 27th. On the 28th, yesterday, I turned my “stuff” in to the cable company. The clerk looked up our account and it showed we had told them to stop the services on the 27th. But service hadn’t been stopped. Now they’re going to say I owe another day.
On top of that, the last bill they raised the fees by $24.00 without warning. That’s why we cancelled. I had mailed in the payment minus the $24.00. Now they say I owe the $24.00 PLUS another full month. I’m waiting for their bill then we’ll have it out.
When I was in the office there was another man cancelling his service. As he walked out I said “Free at last.” He said “Yes, I am. I think I’ll go buy a car.” Lots of people are dropping cable.
I have Time Warner digital phone, and you can block calls at your account site online. I also have Verizon cell phone service. I have a basic phone, no Smart phone, but can still block up to five phone numbers for a 90 day period at my Verizon account site online. I believe if you have a more intricate type of phone, you can block more calls.
I still have an old flip phone and I like it, not changing. The problem with blocking 5 numbers is that they call from a different numbers all the time.
What I often do is to push #1 for a real person and then I lay the phone down in front of the radio and I let them listen to Rush or Michael Berry or listen to country music , sometimes I make my dogs bark into the phone. Anything to waste their time.
Obama with his magic pen will ‘cancel’ your debt, but only if you sign on to vote Dem for life (and after death, too) .... You should be so grateful.
And somehow ‘savers’ will be punished because they unfairly took advantage over those unfortunate.
“You didn’t build that”, so you didn’t build your savings either.
I usually keep my phone ringer off, and just let it vibrate. I only answer calls from numbers I recognize. When I do get a call from a number I don’t know, I do a search for it online to see if other folks have gotten messages from them, and add them to my blocked numbers list on Verizon. The junk calls are few and far between for me, so it hasn’t been a big problem. Most of them don’t bother to leave a message either.
