Delta passengers outraged when child poops on airplane seat

Passengers on a Delta Airlines flight from Beijing to Detroit last week were horrified when a Chinese child squatted on his seat and proceeded to defecate, World News, a U.S.-based, Chinese-language news site, reports. The child’s parents spread newspaper on the seat to catch the waste.

This is a cultural issue. Not a sanitation problem or people being inconsiderate. There system has kids fully potty trained (in toilets) by two years old. (American kids can go to three or four and still have accidents.)

Sadly, you can’t start training a kid with one system and then just shift it on them for convenience.

When I was 12 months old, my mother had me out of diapers. We took a long trip and I was suddenly expected to go in my pants and couldn’t do it. I retained and ended up with a bladder infection so severe that I had kidney failure.

Many people in LatAm are not familiar with modern toilets. There are signs in some “immigrant communities” in California that have signs in Spanish to place used toilet paper in the toilet and flush. They think it goes in the trash can. Often the rest areas along I-5 have used toilet paper in the trash. Gawd awful, and massively unsanitary.

Similarly, there is the “China standard” toilet that is basically a hole in the floor and you squat over it. I’ve been in factories and on trains that had these little gems. I never used one but am pretty sure my aim would be poor. You also have to guess how much paper is needed since the rolls are outside the “stall”.

In the 1950's in Japan it was customary for the US women to shout out, taksan chesai, to the men relieving themselves using the benjo ditches along the roads. It was amusing to see the responses of the Japanese men.
