My first thought, too. Self-love. Knew a very smart man who gave up Bible study for philosophy. Very sad. When Jesus talked to the rich young man who didn’t want to give it up, He was also talking about any kind of riches. Brains, beauty, whatever talents you possess. Humility is key to faith. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and with no fear being a common phrase today it is no wonder that in this nation of Godlessness that worship of man is the religion today.
