New Cold War or same one that never ended

The term “Cold War” is traced back to George Orwell’s 1945 essay “You and the Atomic Bomb.” Like Orwell’s other works, this essay can be called prophetic. In it, he describes what the world would look like if the atomic bomb, although costly and complicated, was accessible to all regimes. He describes countries as living in a perpetual state of “cold war” with their neighbors in a time of “peace with no peace.”

The Cold War started immediately after World War II, when former allies began to clash in ideology. In one corner, you had the WWII Western allies, represented by the United States of America. In the other corner, you had the Soviet allies, represented by the USSR. Because of its oppressive ideology, the USSR’s rise in power was seen as a threat to democracy and to our national sovereignty. Thus began the weapons race. Thus began the era of peace with no peace.

Although the Cold War is said to have ended in the ‘80s, the staring contest did not. Both sides fixed their gaze on each other as they figuratively put down their guns. Neither side really stopped the weapons race. And Russia continued (continues) to develop strategic partnerships with Soviet allies, such as Cuba and China, in ways that fortify its stance on the world stage. Over the past few decades, both sides continued to closely watch the other to see who would flinch first.

Now, as the news about the shot-down Malaysian airline unfolds, and speculation about Russia’s involvement escalates, this is what is on my mind. Will President Obama’s stare be as strong as President Kennedy’s or President Reagan’s was during critical junctures in the Cold War?

For Putinistas, Obama is merely a good excuse for hating the USA. Remember, these Putinistas hate McCain even more than they hate Obama, because McCain is such a staunch enemy of the Kremlin. So they hate America no matter what, regardless of which party is in power. No matter how flexibly Obama bends over for the Russkies, it's never enough for them.

Well, during the Cold War, America certainly held the moral high ground, being the greatest civilization, the greatest achievement mankind ever hoped to aspire to. Made it our duty to confront and defeat the evil of global communism.

Now, with a country that elected twice a Marxist community-organizer as president, a corrupt socialist banana-republic of a government, no sovereignty via open-borders, and a noxious, faggotized culture that is not just putrid but morally bankrupt, America has become too decayed and too degenerate to enter into the same kind of Cold War dynamic. I don’t trust this country’s leaders, nor do I trust this country’s populace anymore. Not like I would have in the decades that followed WW2.

I served twice during that period, but I didn't have to, to recognize the historical era called the Cold War.

You can apply for your Cold War Recognition Certificate, and if you are from Texas or Alaska, and served in the National Guard, then you can receive a Cold War Victory Medal

Yes, I know that the “Cold War” was a phrase invented by a communist member of the MSM school of journalism and the rest of the communist press jumped on the bandwagon.

All I am saying is that it was not a cold war at all. It was always HOT. To use the phrase, “Cold War” is a misnomer.

Why would I want to look into the history of the Texas National Guard when I was born and raised here and had hours of history class about the state of Texas?

I was born and raised in Texas as well, but I never heard of lessons on the state National Guard, I sure did hear about the Cold War though.

That is why the military, both federal and Texas, issues “Cold War” awards.

Christine, you were not in the military during those times. There was never a cold war. It was always hot. Ask any veteran who served during those times.
