Quebec man arrested after allegedly trying to smuggle wife into US near Jackman

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff Posted July 21, 2014, at 8:14 p.m.

BANGOR, Maine — A Quebec man who was arrested last week after allegedly attempting to smuggle his wife into the country made his initial court appearance Monday at U.S. District Court in Bangor.

Pierre Poulin, 40, of St. Martin, Quebec, is charged with encouraging and inducing illegal entry into the U.S., a federal offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He is being held at Somerset County Jail

. . .

During the initial inspection, Poulin appeared to be traveling alone, however, the agent noticed that he had luggage that appeared to belong to a female in the back of his SUV.

During a secondary inspection, authorities found a valid Brazilian passport and a lawful permanent Canadian resident card belonging to a woman named Karoline Ramos de Oliveira, as well as several articles of women’s clothing, a purse, a two-way radio and a cellphone that showed a map of the local area.

Border police officers based in Jackman were advised of inconsistencies and targeted the Arnold Farm area, where they intercepted a woman fitting Oliveira’s description, according to an affidavit prepared by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection supervisory officer.

When officers caught up with the woman, she had a two-way radio of the same make and model as the one found in Poulin’s possession. Oliveira was sent back to Canada.

Operative part of this is that although on American soil, she was sent back to Canada.

Jackman Maine is a wooded wilderness entrance to Northern Maine that is the closest to Quebec. I didn't even know there were any farms in the area.

I expected it to be a Moslem “Quebec man,” but it’s a French Canadian man and Brazilian (I assume) wife.

Only if they are a Canadian citizen, which she was not. She held the Canadian equivalent of a green card. She'd have to meet the same visa rules as any citizen of Brazil which I think means getting a visa approved ahead of time.

Thanx. I think you’re right.

When we went to Brazil we had to get a Visa which required a trip to LA.

We were told that Brazil is merely mirroring what were doing to their citizens.

So i think you’ve hit on it.

They should have flown to mexico and walked across like everyone else.

They should have flown to Mexico and come in through the southern border. They'd be sipping Piña Colada’s on their Davie balcony, right now.

Yes.

Contrast this probably rather harmless attempt to sneak his wife in with the southern border.

If I were him I would ask in defence when Obama, Biden, Reid, pelosi, et al were going to be charged?

Is this a joke? 11 million illegals pour across the US SW border and how many are getting the $350 fine and the 10 years in jail. Unbelievable!

There was a story on one of the MSM stations a couple of years ago showing that at one part of the USA/CA border there was a little ditch with a board across it. One side of the ditch was USA, the other side of the ditch was CA. No check point, no nothing. People could just walk across the board to enter either country from either side. He should have looked for that ditch! ;-)

And....

Ukrainian woman detained at border, thrown in maximum security prison

Oleksandra Bronova and her American husband, Bryan Price, were trying to enter the United States from Mexico on Friday, but things didn’t go according to plan.

Bronova is from southeast Ukraine in an area where heavy fighting and violence was taking place just blocks away from her apartment. She is a Cambridge graduate, is fluent in five languages and has no criminal history.

Price is an American citizen and former U.S. Marine. He told KFOX14 that after Bronova’s family fled Ukraine he began to feel concerned about her safety, and leased her a house in Juarez, where he lived at the time and where she had a visitor’s permit. He said the two of them could then work on processing her U.S. visa paperwork.

A friend of the couple with border enforcement experience advised them that Bronova would most likely be allowed in the country due to the current wave of Central American immigrants who had been crossing the Texas border.

“He gave us some advice that he felt with her having the status of being married to a U.S. citizen, he felt if we went to the Santa Teresa bridge the following morning, there was a very strong possibility they would grant her entry early,” Price said. “He said worst-case scenario they’ll just send you back.”

***********nope, didn’t work out that way...******

Perfect. We shun the married, educated, honest citizen types.

We fast track parasites, total dependents, the uneducated, the gang bangers, disease carriers - any possible undesirable.

Our goobermint is f’n insane !!!!!!

Back then 'illegal aliens' like your ancestors weren't gibsmedats coming here to murder, rape, steal and try to take over the country. They came here to do an honest job and live in peace.

Unlike, say, the horde of invaders that the Communist Usurper has invited to come across our southern border.

Foolish, foolish man. He should have gotten a flight to Mexico first, then come north. Then he would have done better for her than three hots and a cot.
