The west ain’t prepared for escalation and Putin knows this. This is old school “Realpolitik” Russia is playing and unfortunately in the western world in 2014, we don’t have the leadership anymore to go toe to toe with the Bear.
This is how real American Presidents respond:

Actual Presidential Address.
What do these people want? WW III? No one wants to attack Russia? What are we to do? Shoot down some Russian Jets? maybe sink a few Russian Ships? Burn some buildings full of Russians? All of this is propaganda—a Lusitania Moment! No to War—close the borders! Russia can do so much harm to us—like close the air traffic to Kabul leaving our men stranded. How about keeping our guys off the Space Station? China could call in our notes on the debt we owe? How about demand their gold out of Fort Knots (the gold we already spent)-— No—we too our vunerable as well. Russia could hurt us in many ways.
I think the Dutch are rightfully about to do something economic to Putin.
Holland lost out to Russia for the 2018 World Cup, if they have any pull with FIFA, they could start threatening to take the WC from Russia.
Canada Ping!
He’s bolstering Ukraine because Putin has been messing with the Arctic Archipelago. Anything that draws Russian resources south is good for Canada.
My first guess would be Israel, with China and India strong possibilities.
Russian MOD has spoken and asked Americans to reveal what they have. They did, and it implicates Kiev.
It seems that either CSIS was not briefing Baird about the latest development, or he was too stupid to understand it.
Baird's statements are of the same mental magnitude as Mel Lastman's when he was the mayor of Toronto.
The only thing I could say in his defense is that he is speaking on behalf of Galicia Waffen SS descendants and not in the name of all Canadians.
It's a shame who represents Canada.
If you are fond of comparisons, make sure you compare similar things. Austria was NEVER part of Germany, Crimea was always part of Russia. Better comparison is the sinking of Maine. "You furnish the pictures, I furnish the war". MSM is doing the same today as Hearst was doing back then.
If you do not what I am talking about, look it up.
Or compare it with the sinking of Lusitania.
If it was too long ago for you, compare it with the USS Maddox incident.
If it was before your age, compare it with Racak incident.
I could go on, but hope you are familiar with the recent staged incidents used as precursors of military interventions.
Since you speak of Nazi Germany, she started WWII with staged Gliewitz incident. So, Nazi Germany policy continues, but not by Russia.
You’re crazy. Nothing you typed has anything to do with reality. The whole world knows that Russian nazi terrorists have murdered hundreds of innocent people with KGB Putin’s assistance and complicity. You live in an alternate reality. Canada is standing up for what’s right against the evil genocidal Russian regime. Canada is not afraid of the stupid thug Putin.
you just don’t get it do you...
so...you have all this inside information...know more about the details than the P.M.....perhaps you could verify your sources so Canadians don’t have to rely on our dumb leadership...we now have you..the all knowing one
Well then you tell me what I’m not “getting”.
Calling B.S. is not an act of war......standing on the sidelines when the innocent citizens of a stalwart and trusted ally are shot out of the sky is an act of cowardice...Americans tend to equate power with the size of ones stick, Canadians equate power with doing the right thing at the right time. Bairds response has nothing to do with American foreign policy, It is all about keeping the worlds airspace safe for everyone.
Yeah. I just pulled out the low hanging fruit. It was close enough.
