Sessions Slams Bill Gates For Demanding Guest Workers While Microsoft Lays Off 18,000 Americans

“[Bill Gates] questions whether the members of Congress who don't pass laws like he wants on immigration are honoring their duty to the 300 million Americans that we collectively represent. I feel a deep duty to the millions of Alabamians I represent and the whole country, and I do my best every day to ask what’s in their interest. And as far as I’m concerned… those three billionaires [Gates, Buffett, Adelson] have three votes. The individual who works stocking the shelves at the grocery store, the barber, the doctor, the lawyer, the cleaners operator, [and] the person who picks up our garbage are every bit as valuable as they are. So I know who I represent. I represent citizens of the United States of America…”

We need more conservative populism. These are issues we can win on and capture the mushy middle.

Perhaps Bill can explain to all of us why a ‘guest worker’ who barely speaks English is better for America than a highly trained and trainable American who is already working for him?

A guest worker who might even need to be taught what toilet paper is for!

Read your #14 again. It says IBM.

Also, anyone who doesn’t think Gates is the big cahuna at Microsoft isn’t being realistic.

"They hate paying high wages to American techies and long to replace them with Pakistani or Indian ... obedient serfs"

I've always found it fascinating that you don't see a lot (or any) engineers over here on H1B visas from places like Germany, Japan, Taiwan, or South Korea. I wonder if it has to do with how much money those particular engineers make....

They have already layer off 1351 people in Washington State. More are coming - at least double that I suspect. That is a lot of people for Seattle to absorb.

South Korea company LG just introduced proto-types of a roll-up monitor and a see through screen - see through like a window. Their engineers are too busy to worry about coming here to be underpaid stooges.

That's OK, now they all can legally get high and apply for welfare. Utopia, LOL...

IMM? I didn’t know Bill Gates was in charge at IBM? and speaking of IBM/Lenovo they can burn in Hades! Was a (former) Employee of Zurich who got Transitioned to IBM just because someone at ZurichNA thought lets do it like they do in Europe (which is stupid in itself) to save Money. Hope that twit enjoyed his BONUS because he ruined a good Company...especially where I was at we had a lot of good people (that was just like family)...now it’s a Farmers’ Branch. Oh and then IBM decides to Outsource my Job to Canada and then hose me on my Insurance (that was allotted to me in the contract).

It is because those “guest workers” come with PHDs and can be paid much less. These are not “gardener-type” workers.

"...is better for America..."

There in lies the rub. "Better for America" has nothing to do with corporate business decisions these days. The overriding question is what is good for shareholders. Economic patriotism is so 1950ish.

Leftist line of thought: Companies exist to supply jobs to local/national workers a job and should pay a living wage. It should be their responsibility to keep people working and fed.

Conservative line of thought: Companies exist to make a profit for the owner (s) or shareholders and should be wise stewards of the their work force paying them market value for their labors.

Socialist/Progressive Communist line of thought: Crony capitalist who kick us back money for our favors should supply us as much cash as we want for our ever growing appetite. Workers and the middle class should DTFU and be grateful we don’t toss their assesin prison. Freedom, liberties and God given rights be dammed. Hire cheap, charge the max, grease as many palms as needed.

Let free market economist Milton Friedman answer Mr. Gates. Said Friedman: “The H-1B program is a benefit to employers, enabling them to get workers at a lower wage, and to that extent, it is a subsidy.”
