MH17: British families say 'Russian gangsters killed our loved ones'
The Telegraph ^ | July 18, 2014 | Gordon Rayner, Keith Perry and Martin Evans

The families of some of the 10 British victims of flight MH17 angrily accused “Russian gangsters” of killing their loved ones in an “act of war”, as evidence mounted that a missile supplied by Moscow brought down the Malaysia Airlines flight.

Grieving relations also demanded that the airline and the aviation authorities explain why the Boeing 777, with 298 people on board, was allowed to fly over a war zone where three military aircraft had been shot down in the previous four days.

Among the Britons killed in Thursday’s disaster in Ukraine were two undergraduates on their way to Australia, two Newcastle United fans travelling to watch the team play in New Zealand, a United Nations worker and a former RAF technician.

Ukraine said 80 children died, including three babies, together with around 100 experts in HIV/Aids who were on their way to a conference in Melbourne.

President Barack Obama said yesterday that he was certain that MH17 had been shot down by a surface-to-air missile fired by Russian-backed separatists.

together with around 100 experts in HIV/Aids who were on their way to a conference in Melbourne.

ABC News this morning said that there were only 6 -- not 100.

Address that question to Ukrainian air traffic control

why the Boeing 777, with 298 people on board, was allowed to fly over a war zone

The question should be:

why was Russia arming insurgents along an international commercial flight route that included Russia itself with SAMs capable of taking down commercial jets.

Ukrainian Air Traffic Control should have warned off this one plane even though hundreds of other flights that day and thousands of other flights in previous days from dozens of countries were given flight paths over the same air space? Right asshat!

6 is a long way from 100

Australian media would know — the Brits are a little slow.

my Russian friend said this is no small piece of equipment (there are three separate parts and vehicles) and you have to be an expert to run it.

... none of those planes should have been given passage over that airspace either, asshat.

You would have to be a moron to think its smart to let commercial jets fly over an area where you had military aircraft shot down just days earlier.

Two days after another aircraft was shot down by an AA missile in the same area??
You seem to be the asshat here, throwing around insults like that...

From the Malaysian transport minister - this time about the safety of the route:

Quote Some 400 commercial flights, including 150 international flights crossed eastern Ukraine daily before the crash. Officials from Eurocontrol also stated that in the two days before the incident, 75 different airlines flew the same route as MH17.

MH17’s flight path was a busy major airway, like a highway in the sky. It followed a route which was set out by the international aviation authorities, approved by Eurocontrol, and used by hundreds of other aircraft. It flew at an altitude set, and deemed safe, by the local air traffic control. And it never strayed into restricted airspace.

The government of Ukraine officially states that the terrorists, with the help of Russia, are trying to destroy evidence of international crimes.

According to government data, the terrorists have taken 38 bodies to the morgue in (the eastern city of) Donetsk.

It accused specialists with “strong Russian accents” of threatening to carry out their own autopsies.

Blaming this shootdown on the airline is like blaming a woman for being raped, or the victim for being looted —

You really got a couple of putya’s trolls barking with their panties in a twist. We even got treated to putin’s talking points about Ukraine. The troll forgot to include in the talking points that the Ukrainians are pro-gay and hate Jews. s/
