If You Own A Kalashnikov Rifle, Obama Just Sanctioned You

If you thought the latest round of US sanctions against some largely unknown Russians and a few new companies listed here, most notably Rosneft and Gazprombank - but not Gazprom, never Gazprom - that would cut off Russian gas to Europe and Merkel doesn't want that - would be largely a non-event, you are right. Unless you own a Kalashnikov, aka AK-47 rifle. In which case read on.

From the updated sanctions FAQ:

If I own a Kalashnikov product, is that product blocked by sanctions? Am I able to resell a Kalashnikov product at a gun show or other secondary market?

Interesting move, so what was the point in doing that?

I don’t think the author of the article has correctly interpreted the sanction. It only seems to apply to products in which Kalashnikov still has an interest, such as a rifle bought from Kalashnikov on consignment. As I read it, if the rifle is fully owned by a private citizen, the sanction does not apply.

Yes, he got it wrong. It applies to the Russian companies, not us.

There are many non-Russian AKs on the market. The Bulgarians make some very nice rifles (Arsenal) and even Century Arms makes a good rifle in the Centurion 39. The Czechs have a cool AK-but not an AK VZ-58.

I’m sure we’ll see Saigas, VEPRs, and other AKs imported from another country from a shell company.

Being a totalitarian, he would say AK47.

The sanction applies to US Citizens. It just only applies to Kalashnikov products that Kalashnikov still has some interest in. So if you own it outright, it doesn’t apply to you. But if you bought it on consignment from Kalashnikov, it does apply to you.

OFAC is extremely broad and powerful.

***Support of American weapons manufacturers?***

That is one of the reasons Thomas J Dodd and Emanuel Cellar proposed their first federal gun law back in 1962.
The registering of all handguns(Long guns would not be affected) and a ban on 5 shot army surplus bolt action rifles and handguns.

In 1964 they proposed the registration of ALL firearms, and a ban on army surplus rifles.

In 1968, they got their ban on army surplus rifles “to control crime” they said but everyone who had kept up with it knew it was to protect the New England gun makers. Now they are driving their gun makers to TEXAS.

I would highly recommend that you read The Dick Act of 1902 also known as the Efficiency of Militia Bill H.R. 11654, of June 28.

Invalidates all the BS from these clowns, it also goes hand in hand with the USC, look up the definitions for Firearms Title 26, 27, 18 USC… you may be surprised!
