Turkey Trying to Broker Gaza Ceasefire
Arutz Sheva Israel National News ^ | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 | Staff

Turkey has stepped up diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, AFP reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu spoke separately by telephone with Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal to discuss the ceasefire process.

Abbas is due to meet Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey on Friday but Turkish officials refuse to confirm if Mashaal would visit.

No contacts have been made with Israel so far, a Turkish official told AFP.

"Concrete steps can only be taken after Israel stops its assault on Gaza," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Turkey brokering a ceasefire would be a challenge, given its tense relations with Israel in recent years.

Relations between Israel and Turkey have been strained in recent years, in light of the Mavi Marmara incident of 2010.

The Mavi Marmara, which claimed to international media to be providing "humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza," was the largest ship in the flotilla aimed at breaking Israel's Gaza blockade on May 31, 2010.

The ship defied orders to turn around and dock at the Ashdod port. After it ignored repeated warnings to change course, the IDF boarded the vessel - only to be attacked by Islamist extremists on board.

The soldiers had no choice but to open fire, resulting in the deaths of nine of the activists on board.

LOL ... Turkey as broker for a cease-fire?! Turkey harbors Hamas in their country. Thurkey says Israel is basically committing war crimes in Gaza. Turkey helped Islamists try to break the naval blockade around Gaza, which is to prevent arms from getting to Hamas. Turkey says that they cannot normalize diplomatic relations with Israel.

In other words, Turkey is one big JOKE!

What do you mean a “cease fire?” There is one way to stop this—tell Hamas, Hezbollah, and all the other Islamic factions intent on destroying Israel to just stop shooting rockets into Israel. It is as simple as that. when the Islamic hatred of Israel stops, maybe then the region can talk about peace. Unfortunately, that will never happen as long as Islam is a religion that refuses to recognizes Israel. It is as simple as that.
This phony religion based on a seventh century epileptic, child rapist, murderer and thief is the problem.. When the world realizes that then we can come to terms. Sorry, we are in trouble for the ages as that will not happen. Get real, be honest.

Keep in mind here that the issue that was raised here has to do with TURKEY being the broker. “THAT” is the joke for this process, and not the actual cease-fire itself.

Israel already accepted a cease-fore from Egypt, as the broker, this morning - but Hamas declined, so things continued. If Hamas had accepted, we would currently be looking at a CEASE-FIRE right now, as we speak, accepted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The fact of the matter is that TURKEY is not a valid broker for this!

Kerry was originally to be involved in the cease-fire brokered by Egypt this morning (and NOT Turkey). Israel did accept that cease-fire from Egypt, however Hamas didn’t — so things continue ...

Yes, Erdogan loves the Muslim Brotherhood (Hamas) almost as much as Obama does....not an honest broker for a ceasefire IMO.

Once again, Star Traveller is trolling. He is trying to trap you into accepting the idea of a cease fire with terrorists by mocking the idea that Turkey is trying to negotiate it.

He is insidiously trying to introduce progressive talking points into Free Republic threads.

this should be interesting.

Turkey to Hamas- agree to stop, do the Taqiyya for 6 months, we’ll give you more weapons. then we’ll convince Israel to give up more pali terrorist prisoners. next you bomb and kill Israeli civilians especially children.

In case you didn’t notice earlier in the day ... Israel already accepted a cease-fire - with Egypt as the broker, but Hamas refused, so the fighting continues.

You probably have not been following this, but Netanyahu did accept that cease-fire earlier - because, as he said today, it gives Israel much more legitimacy, with the worlds in pursuing Hamas now.

I guess you’re not aware of these circumstances ... :-) ...

Your smiley faces do not make you an honest person. Insuspect you know as well as Indo that the Likud has been a party of the Right, and that when Netanyahu veers left as he did in this instance he loses the support of his party. That is why he chose to fire Danny Danon as depity minister of defence even though he is chairman of the central committee of Likud. This is much like the GOPe tries to distance itself from the Tea Party in this country.

I fully support Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and what he’s been doing through this current situation. I believe he’s been handling it extremely well and is quite smart and savvy in how to handle Hamas. I don’t have any problems with him in this affair.
