NASHVILLE -- Volkswagen Group of America will expand its Chattanooga facility to build a midsize SUV for the U.S. market, investing $600 million and creating 2,000 new jobs in Hamilton county, according to a release from Gov. Bill Haslam.

"Today is an exciting day not just for Chattanooga and Hamilton County but for all of Tennessee, and I want to thank Volkswagen for its significant long-term investment in our state,” Haslam said in the release. “The impact of this announcement goes far beyond the 2,000 new jobs because of the large multiplier effect of the automotive industry, and adding an additional manufacturing line and the National Research & Development and Planning Center sends a clear signal that Tennessee can compete with anyone in the global marketplace.”

Hopefully this will kill the efforts of the UAW. They’ve been nothing but job killers for the past few generations. Just look at Detroit if you want to see their best work.

What if VW only hires UAW ‘approved’ employees and in a few years tries again to push for unionization? Think long term.

Hopefully this will kill the efforts of the UAW.

Either that or it'll cause them to redouble their efforts to unionize and get the legislature to threaten to take away VWs tax breaks again. Without the $190 million in state aid I doubt the expansion would happen. Take away the other breaks and they might pull out altogether.

Yes, but before today is finished, Obama will be bragging about 2,000 new jobs in Tennessee. And, somehow or other, he’ll make it sound as though Obamacare caused it.

TN has a Republican Governor and Legislature. The UAW won’t get any traction there. VW employees rejected the UAW.

The last time the UAW tried to organize Republican leaders of the legislature were talking about revoking VW's tax incentives if the union won. Another attempt at organizing will no doubt bring the same threats. The UAW will hope that sooner or later VW will get tired of the threats, or their German unions will apply pressure on the company, and the Chattanooga expansion will get put on hold if not cancelled.

VW wants the UAW in there. That Amnesty pushing idiot Rino Senator stuck his nose in the vote. Get used to it. The company wants a Union there.

They have probably agreed to hire UAW approved workers, to grow their chances of turning the whole damn plant union!

I would not doubt this at all, since VW allowed the union to setup shop IN-HOUSE, even AFTER the workers voted AGAINST unionization!

They are going to start stacking the deck - watch!
