A rude Obamacare awakening
Washington Post ^ | July 9, 2014 | By Jennifer Rubin

This fall insurance carriers will have to announce next year’s premiums for the Obamacare exchanges. So far it’s looking like big rate increases are ahead.

In New York, for example, the hikes will be huge. The New York Times recently reported:

" Some New Yorkers are in sticker shock after receiving notices from their insurance companies saying that they have asked for significant rate increases through the state’s health exchange next year.

"The exchange, which has prided itself on being affordable, is now facing requests for increases as high as 28 percent for some customers of MetroPlus, a new entry to the individual insurance market and one of the least costly — and most popular — plans on the exchange this year. . . . Over all, including plans inside or outside the exchange, insurance companies asked for average rate increases of 13 percent in 2015, the state’s Financial Services Department said Wednesday."

Given that we don’t have accurate information about who signed up for the exchanges — yet another problem — it’s hard to see exactly how carriers will assess their costs. But contrary to Obama’s promises, the rates for individual plans offered through the exchanges are going up, not down. . .

I will continue praying for the freedom-friendly Law of Supply and Demand to rescue America from the evil inflicted by ObamaCare. I expected the Supreme Court to do that for us, but Chief Justice Roberts betrayed America instead.

Wouldn’t it be great if we all were Exempt or...better yet, if no one was Exempt.

Surprise, surprise...you force the people to have Obamacare or get penalized and the libs don’t understand the reason for the rate increase? It’s a mob tactic; force pople o pay for protection. If they don’t pay up you break their legs or have someone else do it then charge them more the next time as punishment. Damn the LIV millenials / libs / LGBT’ers are dimwits and they are going to get exactly what they deserve.

I know that with democrats the cure can be worse than the disease (often by design), but ObamaCare is already enough to destroy America as a free and prosperous country. I’ll take the risk.

Many of the folks posting to this thread haven’t picked up on the subtlety. Please note that it is the [evil] insurance companies who are asking for the increase. This meme will fill the airwaves until there is a drumbeat to get rid of those EVIL insurance companies and march toward single payer where all will be well! [\sarcasm for last phrase]

My wife just returned from her hair dresser who works as an independent contractor for a salon with no insurance policy. Her husband is a barber and he too is recognized as as an independent contractor, according to Obamacare. they both have to pay $500/mo for insurance thanks to Obama. They can't be on the same policy

Unaffordable unaccountable and un-thought out.
This whole thing is a shambles because of a stupid president and his stupid, greedy democrat party.

“Republicans who want to win in November and then have a mandate to redo health-care reform would be wise to refocus on Obamacare’s unkept promises and present an alternative that is simple and effective.”

The Lollipop Lickers & Obama have the pubbies wearing Depends these days .... no way they’ll take on anything like this, especially anything “simple and effective”.

When that meets the afteraffects of this, the results will be very interesting (bond collapse, interest rates, market effects, layoffs, austerity, layoffs, cycle again).

Yes, they are ‘evil’. In the form of cronyism. They supported ObamaRomneyCare knowing that ‘we’ would be forced to purchase insurance from them. What a joke.

The employer mandate has been postponed for the second year in a row. Look for it to be eliminated altogether. One of the unstated objectives of Obamacare was to break the link between employment and healthcare. The corporate class owns both parties.

That's exactly what we need. Unfortunately it's not happening. Unions bargaining for "healthcare" as a benefit to circumvent WW2 wage controls started this whole mess. Broke the connection between user and payer. Prices skyrocketed - shocking, right?
