Ted Cruz declines to follow Palin’s lead in calling for Obama’s impeachment

Every Republican has three options on impeachment. One: “Let’s do it. He’s got it coming.” As far as I know, no one in Congress has joined Palin in taking that approach since her op-ed at Breitbart went live yesterday, although I’m sure there’s a constituency for it in the House. Someone should ask Tim Huelskamp or Michele Bachmann. Two: “Hell no. It’s political suicide.” Lots of Republicans believe that, McCain and Boehner foremost among them, but they don’t want to say so publicly or else they’ll be attacked from the right for putting expediency above principle. Erick Erickson, who’s no one’s idea of a RINO, is bolder than they are in making the case today at Red State.

Thus, option three: “He’s got it coming, but alas, it won’t work. Democrats are too corrupt to join us in the effort.” That’ll be the default position for Republican pols since it lets them shift blame while achieving suicide-avoidance. The mystery with Cruz was whether he’d choose door number one or number three. He wants to preserve his cred as Mr. Tea Party ahead of 2016 but, after having spearheaded the “defund” effort, he also doesn't want to get knocked again as a guy who’s willing to bet lots of Republican political capital on lost causes. His interview with Mark Levin on Monday night suggested that he was in the “he’s got it coming but it won’t work” camp.

And, per National Review, he is.

I disagreed with Sarah's statement calling for impeachment the moment I read it. It would be unsuccessful. It would die a unspectacular death in the senate while at the same time actually stimulating the Dem base to turn out in droves in the upcoming election in defense of its benevolent Messiah (no matter what he's guilty of)

There's a time for everything, and the time for impeachment is not at this precise moment.

And there's other ways (with more chances of success) to skin a rat.

Yea see those ‘long term consequenses’ were pretty far from the collective GOP mind when they pushed for lesser evil. Because ‘long term’ they added up to a party too gutless to impeach, filled with people too gutless to admit what they are. Moderates at best.

I think it’s awfully entertaining how a certain same old same old group of posters here hit all these threads with excuse after excuse covering for the ‘strategy’ of letting Obama retain power and not using the Constitution to strip him of his office.

Who came up with that ‘strategy’? Saul Alynski, Cloward or Piven? Ayres perhaps? Or was it a collective DNC contribution?

You want to destroy the Republican Party.

I, on the other hand, while angry with the GOP over Mississippi and other issues, realize an important point:

NO political party will ever be perfect, as all political parties will consist of human beings, with egos, pride, ambition, cowardice and all the other human faults.

In truth, pushing for a “3rd Party” as you and your buddies want, will only make YOU compromise more and more with worthless or even damaging candidates. If your goal is to harm the GOP, you do not care if you win or lose an election as long at the Republicans take one on the chin.

This is suicide and it accomplishes nothing.

AS for your other worn out refrain? This country would be FAR worse off if not for conservatives like me within the Republican Party who have been fighting the good fight for years and years.

The “lesser of evils” strategy is the ONLY strategy, as well fall short of the Glory of God.

NO candidate will ever be perfect.

Every strategy has risks and rewards.

The risk of impeachment now is far, far higher than the “reward” of Joe Biden, perhaps, being POTUS.

Obviously you have no idea what conservatism is about. But you have situational ethics down cold.

Thanks for clarifying your position on lesser evil. I think you are doing Roof hits with Barry with a position that ludicrous but in all seriousness I admire the fact you are willing to state what you believe so the rest of us don’t waste any more time than needed to refute it.

You have refuted nothing at all.
You have no leaders.
You have no followers to speak of.
You are basically alone in your views.

Smart conservatives want to defeat liberals.

Egotistical “conservatives” want to beat their chests.

You are absolutely correct. They used to be called ‘fair weather’ friends (substitute Republicans for friends). They have the act of sticking a wet finger up in the air to gauge who and/or what to support based on which way the political winds are blowing.
