The NSA warrantless surveillance program nominally geared at spying on foreigners has also spied on innocent Americans without a warrant, including a Republican Party operative, a civil rights activist and several university professors. The revelations by investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald raise the possibility that NSA warrantless surveillance has been used for political rather than security purposes.

The NSA illegal warrantless searches were for political, not national security reasons.
I’m shocked that the Ostapo wing of NWO would allow this.
Greenwald noted that all five Americans surveiled [sic] happened to be Muslim, and suggested that this may be a religious test for surveillance.
If the people spied on were exclusively Muslim, then I'm largely OK with this specific incident. (Remember, this is Glenn Greenwald, a man of the Left, so we need to check, double-check, and quintuple-check.) A cursory observance of international affairs shows that Muslims are not to be trusted (no exceptions).
That being said, there needs to be clear constraints on who can be surveyed and who can't. Given that Tea Party groups DO NOT have a history of violence, surveillance of them should be strictly off limits. Given that liberal, Democrat, and Muslim groups DO have histories of violence, surveillance of them should be allowed and encouraged.
No! I can't believe it...
how much sh1t are we goiung to take from il douchebag? before it’s too late? i pray God removes him.
Have not read the article, but I can guess who that GOP rep is.
John Bonehead Boehner.
I’m still waiting for the full list and not the dribs and drabs of selective release.
You may be waiting for a very long time.
Maybe they will be released around the time the Lois Lerner and other IRS emails are made public.
Maybe they will be released around the time that Hell has a year round ice hockey league and ice skating rinks throughout the premises.
Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping!
To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you must threaten to report me to the Mods if I don't add you to the list...
This is not news. Under the Regime, all agencies are used as political weapons. What would be news would be an agency that didn't corrupt itself to become a political lackey.
Good. If they can legally spy on me they can spy on them.
Hmmmm doesn’t the term Watergate come to mind????
According to Greenwald, the following people were under surveillance (these are the descriptions made available by Greenwalds press agent):
- Faisal Gill, a longtime Republican Party operative and one-time candidate for public office who held a top-secret security clearance and served in the Department of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush
- Asim Ghafoor, a prominent attorney who has represented clients in terrorism-related cases
- Hooshang Amirahmadi, an Iranian-American professor of international relations at Rutgers University
- Agha Saeed, a former political science professor at California State University who champions Muslim civil liberties and Palestinian rights
- Nihad Awad, the executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the country
Wonder about the non-muslim (real) conservatives and others.
These are American citizens being illegally spied upon. There are legal means to get a warrant and follow suspicious Muslims. But, Who Cares? The Constitution died years ago!
Let's just fry everybody unpopular (like the Branch Davidians)! American Exceptionalism!
Get a grip people. Faisal Gill was a security threat who should never have been in the Bush administration. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3178309/posts
