Theres hand-wringing and finger-pointing at Simon & Schuster over the soft performance of Hillary Clintons Hard Choices, for which she got a $14 million advance, sources said and which was replaced at No. 1 on the best-seller list this week by an exposé about Hillary and Bill Clinton.
The former secretary of states tome sold 161,000 copies in its first three weeks, according to Nielsen BookScan but 85,000 of those were sold in the first week. That number has dropped sharply to 48,000 and 28,000 in subsequent weeks, with the most recent numbers due out Wednesday.

The loss on Hillary's book is going to wipe out an entire quarter of Simon and Schuster earnings. This is just too good!

Coming soon to Simon and Schuster, courtesy of Hillary Clinton's $14 million book advance and other writeoffs associated with her failed book.

The book flopping is a good sign about her campaign.

What’s that line in “Animal House”?

I feel so bad. I think I will cry. But wait a minute it is hillary’s book that is tanking. I will now shed tears of joy and shout a big hooray.

Here's your answer.

What BS. I’m sure that every senior executive in S&S - up to the CEO and Chairman of the Board - knew full well about this “advance” and enthusiastically supported it.
Absolute nonsense.

I think so too. They probably had a meeting on it and passed it without any dissent or question.

I don’t know how the publishing business works. If it’s an “advance”, does that mean it is an advance on future royalties? Or is it an advance payment before she submits the manuscript? I’m wondering if she has to return any of the money...
