Herd a REALLY interesting take on the MS shenanigans today from a young, educated, responsible man, born, bred and educated in MS.

I was saying Thad C was gettiing too old, had served too long and needed to give it up to younger man.

The response was--Thad is going to serve not more than 2 years, then resign. Haley Barbour gets appointed senator without having to run and has 4 years as incumbent before the next election.

Makes a lot of sense.

Also--most probably knoiwre he finished up as gov., and Barbour's PAC is big time supporting Cochran

How come michigan isn’t considered? Detroit carries the the motherload of it although perhaps recently Mi is a little more tame.

That theory has been out there for sometime now. Except he’d have to run at either
the 2 or 4 yr mark for the remainder of the six yr term. My guess was he’d resign around
6 months in giving the appt 18 months until the next election date. Who knows what is
going to happen. There are going to be some court cases I’d guess.

Last para of post # 43--Brett Farr endorsed Cochran because Barbour pardoned Farr's brother as one of his last acts as gov. Barbour's PAC is big time supporting Cochran.

Barbour went on a huge pardoning spree just before leaving gov.'s office. Evidently, one of the pardoned has since murdered someone. That pretty much squashed a run for senate, as people are disgusted; but an appt. would bypass the publicity and 4 yrs is a long time to bury the facts.

Maybe because of this quote.

” “the overall extent of corruption will be higher in states with higher numbers of convictions of public officials.”

Leland Lee, one of the biggest gun grabbers in California is busted for trafficking arms and we don’t even get an honerable mention? And don’t get me started on Di Fi and her investment banker hubby.

Yea I know. Blanton died years ago. The Butchers did their time and one is dead now. The Ford family doesn't have as much clout as they used to either. My guess is someone is still disturbed about the VW plant Union rejection.

Illinois — 4 of the last 7 governors have done gone to prison. ‘Nuff said.

"The researchers studied more than 25,000 convictions of public officials for violation of federal corruption laws between 1976 and 2008 as well as patterns in state spending to develop a corruption index that estimates the most and least corrupt states in the union,"

No wonder the list is so inaccurate. The most corrupt states don't prosecute their corrupt politicians. Illinois, the state where an unknown alien beat a Clinton for the presidential nomination, has GOT to be #1.

China stopped buying our bonds a while ago. What bills they buy are generally very short term. They are divesting USTs, not adding to them.

The list must be completely bogus. It is a statistical impossibility that an accurate list of the 10 most corrupt states wouldn’t include New Jersey.

One also wonders why Illinois, New York, and California are not heading up the list.

(Okay, I get it...Chris Mathews.)

Voops! Illinois was already on the list.

Reading thoroughly before posting? Priceless.

You mean Cristie hasn’t changed ANYTHING?? The list doesn’t mention the time frame judged, could just be the last several years.

These are the states who prosecute corrupt persons.....the most corrupt states don’t prosecute

Based on personal experience in the State of Washington, Washington should be near the top of the list.

There has never been a judge in a court of record in Washington who has been prosecuted for a corruption related offense; and it isn't because there are no corrupt judges in the State of Washington.

California and New Jersey should top that list.
