Walker Campaign calls on TV stations to pull Mary Burke ad over the John Doe

MADISON – Scott Walker’s campaign committee has sent a letter to television stations late Thursday demanding that a new campaign ad that mentions the release of John Doe records should be pulled off the air.

More: Mary Burke Releases Second TV Ad

What caused the Walker Campaign to demand such action was that the Attorney Randall Crocker, who represents Special Prosecutor Francis Schmitz, said that Governor Walker was not a target of any criminal probe and that the records that were referenced in news reports were only stated in theory. Croker concluded that the records did not establish the existence of a crime. In response to the statement said by Schmitz’s Attorney, Walker Campaign Spokesman Tom Evenson said: “After the media’s slanderous reporting last week, today’s statement by prosecutors should serve as an opportunity for the media to correct the record and report the real facts of this story.”

On Thursday, the Burke Campaign issued an advertisement that used video clips from various television newscasts aired on June 19, 2014, falsely asserting that Governor Scott Walker was part of a nationwide criminal probe. Walker Campaign Manager Stephan Thompson said in a statement after the release of the Burke ad: “Mary Burke’s ad is slanderous at best and it should pulled from the airwaves immediately. Failure to remove this ad would be dishonest and misleading to Wisconsin voters by furthering baseless allegations and inaccurate reporting.”

In response, Burke Campaign Spokesman Joe Zepecki said: ““Accusing respected news outlets and the Bureau of Labor Statistics of slander on the same day his latest ad was rated “False” would be laughable if it wasn’t so transparently political. Scott Walker may not like that he is alleged by prosecutors to be at the center of a nationwide criminal scheme that is the subject of an ongoing investigation or that on his watch Wisconsin is dead last, 10th out of 10 in the Midwest, on job creation – but the facts speak for themselves:This ad will stay on the air.”

Walker demands Mary Burke withdraw misleading ad

FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.

I guess this demand wasn’t met because the ad is still running.

Whether it is pulled or not I don’t think is the aim of Walker, but instead to give it the taint it deserves along with those who would propagate it. The freedom of public discourse carries its weight bolstered only by its responsibilities.

It is becoming well known of the scurrilous nature of these claims and the Goebbels methods are no match for the simple truth. By raising the objection, it makes news and in such delivers the truth as well to any reasonably discerning citizen. He is just helping them overplay their hand, again.

Truth means nothing to Democrats. They can’t debate the issues successfully so they attack. Mary Burke can’t stand behind the horrid record of the Jim Doyle administration, of which she was a part, so she ignores the facts that smears a governor who cleaned up her mess.

The next GOP administration should jerk the TV stations’ licenses.

It seems the whole purpose of the ‘investigation’ was to create the same baseless headline the Burke campaign is now using against Walker.

The polls are too tight for my comfort, but yet the campaign has barely begun, so very few people even know who Mary Burke is.
