Isis Reaches The Suburbs Of Baghdad

The Islamic State of Syria and Sham (ISIS) and their Sunni tribal allies reached the strategic Mahmudiyah district southwest of Baghdad in large numbers on June 26th.

Kurdish officials said that militants had seized the towns of Iskandariyah and Mahmudiyah. The depleted Iraqi Army 17th Division is still fighting in the area, but it lacks air support and armored vehicles. Since Mahmudiyah district controls the key supply routes linking Baghdad with the Shiite majority in the south, more Iraqi Army units will have to be pulled back from fighting in the north.

According to reports by Stratfor Global Intelligence, unnamed Iraqi defense officials admit that seven divisions, half of the Iraqi army prior to the fall of Mosul, have been defeated or given up the fight. Large numbers of mostly Shiite Muslims have volunteered, but they lack training and experience.

All the more reason for ISIS to step it up even faster. Their enemy is disorganized and basically in retreat.

Next comes the seige of Baghdad. Surround the city, starve it out as “fifth Columns” do their evil work inside the city—The US embassy will be a focal point—When you see the President of Iraq feeing to Basra you know its all over. They will focus on the airport to help cut off the city. IRAN will try to lift the seige but will focus on the shrines of the shiea cult—like the golden Mosque in Karbala. Watch as ISIS attacks from the air next.

This looks terminal for Iraq.

I am surprised that Iran is sitting on its hands.

I am not surprised that Obama is doing nothing.

Looks like the guys that Hussein Obama was arming and threatening to bomb Assad over have a shot at taking Baghdad.

Encircled is not a good place to be.

If they are able to mass a sufficient force and press the attack before reinforcements from Iran show up, Maliki is a goner.

Most likely they will leave the US embassy alone, although I expect there will be lots of taunting going on, and we will have to ask their permission for our people to get out alive.

Speaking of Karbala, it’s amazing that every Shia prays with a little clay tablet that they put their head on. The clay comes from Karbala, and they say that the blood of the people slain there is in the clay. To the Shia, Islam is broken until the last imam returns.

They are interesting, they are obsessed with a battle that happened 1400 years ago, and cry about it to this day, yet they are more laid back and accommodating than the Sunni, for the most part. In my dealings with muslims, I found the Shia to be much easier to get along with.

Hate to say this but our Embassy is rich in hostages and it would be a feather in the cap of ISIL if they drove the Americans out of Iraq altogether.
