How many years does Thad Cochran actually have left? He may very well not finish out the next six years, in which instance his re-election may well prove to be of no great consequence. What the heck, he may die before January 2015.
There is a back-door possibility that a three-way race, with a Democrat in the running, could prove to be beneficial to Chris McDaniel. All those votes that funneled to Cochran would revert to their natural constituency, the Democrat party, clearly a minority in Mississippi.
But don’t count on it.
The fix was in beforehand. Cochran plans to serve about 2-3 years, then retire, opening up the door for Bryant to appoint Barbour or Barbour-shill Tate Reeves to the seat. No actual election for Mississippians. They just want everyone appointed.
