Biden one-ups ‘dead broke’ Hillary by boasting he’s ‘the poorest man in Congress’
The Washington Times ^ | 6-23-14 | Dave Boyer

At a White House summit for working families Monday, Vice PresidentJoseph R. Biden tried to relate to the audience by calling himself “the poorest man in Congress.”

While acknowledging that he was wearing “a mildly expensive suit,” Mr. Biden said he’s not as wealthy as most of his peers in Washington.

“I don’t own a single stock or bond,” Mr. Biden said to laughter. “I have no savings accounts. But I got a great pension and I got a good salary.”

Mr. Biden and wife Jill reported $407,009 in adjusted gross income in 2013, including $230,700 for his salary as vice president. They also have been receiving $2,200 a month in rent from the Secret Service for its use of a small building on their property in Delaware.

But the vice president’s reported net worth of less than $800,000 is less than many of his colleagues in Congress, where he serves as president of the Senate.

Mr. Biden acknowledged that he has been “very, very fortunate” in his career. And although he didn’t propose any new federal policies to help working families Monday, he called for employers to be more flexible in granting leave.

So Biden has lives almost completely off the taxpayer for decades with no money coming from private enterprise. How is this a.good thing?

“I don’t own a single stock or bond,”

Meaning that he owns a large portfolio and not just one share or one bond.

“I have no savings accounts"...

Meaning that he is invested in land, CDs, moneymarket, mutual funds...just not a simple savings account.

Oh that Joe....understands the plight of the common man. Aren’t we so lucky to have him as VP? /sarc

And damper99 - great observation!

There is no way in the world that Joe will be able to out poor-mouth the Clintons.

They are masters of the game.

Technically Biden presides over the senate as VP.

Prior to the 2008 election I used to think Biden was one, if not the smartest Dem up on The Hill. Now more like the fool on it. Wonders never cease with old, entertaining Joe Mr. Bidejangles.

“...before becoming a politician?”

He’s been one since the dawn of time; forever is way too long.

"President Pro Tempore ... is a constitutionally recognized officer of the Senate".

OTOH, I'm sure there are Senate employees that are a tad bit poorer.

Well, he certainly does not give it away.

His charitable contributions for years have been abysymally low.

He has been making a Congressional salary for 36 years, his mother passed away, he gets $2200 a month in rent from the Secret Service on his own property, makes $400,000 a year and has a net worth of only $ 800,000!

BALONEY!

Good point!

Just what DOES the Democrat’s “Fairness Doctrine” demand to reduce the National problem of income inequality?

Exactly...and still is poor at handling money. He makes $400k per year and only has a net worth of $800k? His philosophy of spend everything you make and rely on the taxpayer (his pension) for retirement is 100% in line with his actions as a lawmaker.

Back when there a whole lot of dimrats running for pres, Biden was running. In the dimrat primaries, Biden polled at 3% with his party.

And as for his “poverty”, there is a picture of his house that has been posted here on FR before. It looks like something out of the lifestyles of the rich and famous show. Robin Leach would be proud.

The First Amendment in our Bill of Rights says:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Given how the leftists/liberals (and ACLU) insist, that a student in high school, standing in the stands of the high school's football stadium in a town in Texas, saying a prayer to Jesus, is effectively the "Congress" who, according to the leftists/liberals (and ACLU) ... *MUST* observe what Thomas Jefferson wrote in a letter years *after* ratification of our Bill of Rights: "separation of church and state" (quoting the leftists) ...

Then, any male student in a high school, whom the left declares ought not say a prayer to Jesus, and said mail student has little or no money ... is the "poorest man in Congress."
