Yet here, in a still somewhat free market, you can still buy those things from Neiman-Marcus and Rodeo Drive down to the lowliest strip mall dollar store or 7/11.

Oh, I know: “REAL socialism has never been tried!!!!” This can’t be the real thing, either, then. But next time, it will work!

I have seeds for a few plants that can be used as soap. Soapwort, buffalo gourd, and another that I'm blanking out on the name of.

There are some flowers and herbs that can be made into a tea and splashed on the skin to help with body odor.

Another thing to add to the prepper repertoire.

From Wikipedia:

The proven oil reserves in Venezuela are claimed to be the largest in the world, according to an announcement in early 2011 by then president Hugo Chávez and the Venezuelan government. The reported proven reserves reach 297 billion barrels (4.72×1010 m3), surpassing that of the previous long-term world leader, Saudi Arabia.

OPEC said that Saudi Arabia's reserves stood at 265 billion barrels (4.21×1010 m3) in 2009. The appropriateness of this politically beneficial rapid increase in Venezuela's proven reserves is controversial.

==========================

So Venezuela has the money to buy all the deodorant in the western hemisphere. The petrodollars must be going SOMEWHERE. (Swiss bank accounts??)

WHY would 297 billion barrels of oil reserves be "controversial" unless they are a LIE?

Deodorant? How bourgeois. You’re allowed to be as hairy and stinky as your comrades in your socialist utopia.

Maybe they can ferment and drink their oil.

I don’t know how much baking soda goes for in Venezuela, but it makes a dandy substitute for shampoo. True, you won’t get that lather effect, but your hair will be clean and shiny. Gar-un-teed!

The cash-strapped government has been dealing with all sorts of scarcities

Gee. How does this always happen in socialist countries? Huh. What a mystery.

“The cash-strapped government has been dealing with all sorts of scarcities – from staples like milk to medical supplies – because the country has put controls on the purchase of hard currency.”

I think I see the problem.
