A mother and daughter lean against the bus station wall, huddled together under a cream-colored blanket. Their eyes droop as exhaustion sets in.
They spent the past few days in detention, and Ana Maria worries about what the future holds.
But even as questions swirl in her head, this 28-year-old mother says one thing is certain: "I do not want to go back to Guatemala."
It's been three years since she last saw her husband, who works in a restaurant in Portland, Oregon. Now he's just three bus rides and 34 hours away.
She's excited to bring her family back together, find a job that pays well and watch her 10-year-old daughter Greisy succeed in school.
"We came here," she says, "to fight."
Ana Maria and Greisy are part of a surge of mothers and children from Central America who authorities say are illegally crossing the border into the United States.

Go home and fight the problems in your own shtthole country. Make IT a better place.
So, some of them did come with mom... what about pop? Living on the road like this is superior to being back home with him?
I find it hard to blame them, in a way. They knew the US had a soft spot for Latin Americans, and their country IS a muck-up.
But Obama liberalism isn’t going to help do any true good here. They didn’t come with dignity in mind, they came with handouts in mind. That’s a soul rotter.
Here’s where evangelists could help them. With the spiritual moxie, they can lick a lot of problems, but they truly have to be willing to put God first wherever they happen to be.
You should never have been here. Go home, wherever that is.
Send them back---and deport the illegal husband with all his identitie, as well.
Americans do not want these streetwise savages here.....lying in wait to endamger Americans.....eternally sucking off the backs of struggling US taxpayers.

A SLAP IN THE FACE TO LAW-ABIDING AMERICANS-- the Guatemalan Counsel complained to a US reporter about the conditions the horde (new Dummycrat voters) were living in.
Better clean house first, buddy.
5/28/13----Former Guatemala Prez used US banks to launder millions (swindler was elected to "redistribute" the nation's wealth)
An ex-president of Guatemala faced charges in NY that he used US banks to launder millions looted from his impoverished nation. Alfonso Portillo took office in 2000 pledging to redistribute Guatemalas wealth. Portillo, 61, allegedly ran scams to drain the impoverished country's coffers. The feds say Portillo embezzled about $2.5M provided by the Taiwanese embassy....$1.5 million was earmarked for Libraries for Peace....books for school kids.
Portillo personally endorsed three, $500,000 checks issued against an account at the Intl Bank of China in Manhattan, then deposited the cash in the Miami bank account of a Guatemalan bank controlled by a close associate and political supporter .....the money was funneled to bank accounts in Paris in the names of Portillos ex-wife and daughter.
Portillo swindled nearly $4M defense funds ...and plundered the national bank run by his alleged co-conspirator through overdrafts financed by public reserves -- stolen money paid for expensive watches and cars, for himself and his associates, according to the indictment. Guatemala receives $391.8 annually in direct US aid earmarked for the poverty-stricken populations they are now throwing over the border---- does not reflect US military aid and other US agencies' aid to these swindlers. Where is the US aid money going?

WIKI The Guatemalan population in the US per the 2010 Census was 1,044,209. Guatemalans are the fifth largest Hispanic group in the United States and the second largest Central American population, after Salvadorans. Half of the Guatemalan population is situated in two parts of the country, the Northeast and Southern California.
Along with other Central Americans such as Costa Ricans, they first arrived by way of Mexico and settled in urban areas like Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Houston, New York City and San Francisco.
The intensification of the Guatemalan Civil War during the 1970s and 1980s led to an influx of tens of thousands of Guatemalan refugees into the United States via Mexico, via both legal and illegal means. Guatemalan refugees became an important political and economic influence on seeking an end to their homeland's civil war, which finally came about in 1996.
They also organized to change policies of the Mexican government in dealing with Guatemalan immigrants' legal status, their experience in Mexico, and difficulties of Guatemalans in Mexico immigrating to the US.
Half of the Guatemalan population is situated in two parts of the country, the Northeast and Southern California. A combined population of 267,335 resides in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties. The Northeast megalopolis, extending from Northern Virginia to north of Boston is home to a population of 257,729 Guatemalans. Cities such as Langley Park, Maryland, Trenton, New Jersey, Stamford, Connecticut, Providence, Rhode Island, and Lynn, Massachusetts have significant concentrations of Guatemalans along the corridor.

So how the hell did you manage to get through MEXICO huh?
...and why didn’t you just hop on a plane and arrive?
Deport these illegal alien freaks. These criminals should have all assets seized and be deported. They are criminals.
Her husband’s already here, working illegally in Portland. Deport ‘em all.
These boo-hoo stories are all the same. It’s always brave Conchita and her lovable daughter, or hardworking Pedro and his wide-eyed son. Blah blah blah. Can someone get these liars some new material?
So you have no right to be here.,..your fight is in Guatemala. And now we know your husband is in Portland he can be reunited with you and you can all go back together.
The NERVE of these people.
