Rand Paul: Ask Dick Cheney about Iraq War
POLITICO ^ | 6/20/14 | KENDALL BREITMAN

Posted on 06/20/2014 9:27:12 PM PDT by boycott

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) wants to turn the tables on those who are questioning President Barack Obama’s handling of the draw down of troops in Iraq.

In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” that will air Sunday, when host David Gregory asked Paul if he found former Vice President Dick Cheney to be a credible critic of the president, Paul responded “I think the same questions could be asked of those who supported the Iraq War. You know, were they right in their predictions? Were there weapons of mass destruction there? Was the war won in 2005, when many of those people said it was won?”

Paul’s response comes after Cheney and his daughter Liz published an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal criticizing the president for the ongoing conflict in Iraq where militants have begun to take over some of the country’s largest cities.

“Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many,” the article said. “Too many times to count, Mr. Obama has told us he is ‘ending’ the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan — as though wishing [makes] it so.”

Instead of placing blame on the president, Paul suggested that blame for the unrest in the Middle East can be placed elsewhere.

“I don’t blame President Obama,” Paul said. “Has he really got the solution? Maybe there is no solution. But I do blame those who are for the Iraq War for emboldening Iran. These are the same people now who are petrified of what Iran may become, and I understand some of their worry”

Why would we expect Obummer to do anything which is in national interest? He messed up Egypt, Libya, Syria & Iraq.

Obummer did what was politically popular to get elected. Americans were tired of Iraq war and Afghanistan war. People liked to hear Obummer was going to end the wars. They liked to hear Iraqi’s should fend for themselves.

But Obummer could have never caused ISIS to take over a huge chunk of Iraq if Bush did not invade Iraq in the first place. Saddam was a brutal dictator, but he kept the fanatics in check. Ditto with Mubarak in Egypt. The so called Arab spring is turning out to be a nightmare as I expected.

On this issue he ‘evolved’. And to me that’s a good thing. Anytime a former lib supporter turns on a lib GOP POS, I am happy.

As to other issues, one at a time. But here, on this one. Good on him. ;)

Oops sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you meant the poster, nor Rand. My fault entirely.

RAND I bought marginally for about a month before I decided he was a fraud in training. He proved it quickly.

Post 3 is mine, describing Rand Paul’s endorsement and campaigning for Romney in 2012, and his March 2013 endorsement of McConnell and his shutting out any tea party challenge so early.

You should have watched Hannity TV tonight. He had some actual Muslims on the show, lot more knowledgeable about middle-east than me and you because they have actually spent time there, whereas I have never been to Iraq. Based on what I heard, the Iraqi’s were voting for the leaders who followed their own version of Islam. They were NOT voting for a western style democracy.

I have never been either but there are a couple things I learned from returning vets and business people/non military. Pre and post 9/11.

1: never trust them. Ever.
2: porn mags are currency.

Some months back another vet freeper whose name escapes me was talking about it also. I have had more than one person tell me porn mags get you anything including the real deal.

When my daughter was there she later learned that one of the people the locals they had on base interacting with pretty much ‘everyone’ was AQ...and many of the other locals on base knew it. they got him before anything happened.

Not one of the many ‘innocent muslims’ there ever turned on him until the screws got tightened. They were just smiling away RahRahing us day after day knowing the guy was reconing the place and the people for an attack.

I saw about half of it and its taped so I will see the rest,
Very interesting ....there were some people saying democracy was taking root.....I think Islam is the antithesis of Democracy so its at the root of the problem...At the same time Bush had lots of reasons to go into Iraq and I think Cheney laid it out pretty well the other day.

Bush may have been overly optimistic, but given the situation I think he had to try.
I do think it could still improve but we are looking at many more years of pain.

Probably the worst thing Obama has squandered is our intelligence capability...We had little to none before 911 and to lose the gains that were made in that area is criminal

As a contractor, I will tell you that all Middle Eastern types are on the low end of customers, but with Muslims I learned to not waste time on them, tell them what is and demand to see the money, and if they still hired me anyway, to get the money in advance and keep it shallow.

Middle Eastern people are interested in beating you, it is some kind of cultural thing they are driven to do, they see doing things that would shame and embarrass a traditional American, as them winning over you.

It is similar to the cultural divide between Indians and settlers, the settlers thought stealing was disgusting and a mark of a degraded man, while the Indians saw it as the highest aspiration of a real man.

A horse thief to a settler was scum, to an Indian, a leader and a man to be respected, well that is what it is like with a Muslim when he calls you out to do a simple job.

Bush was out of his mind in invading Iraq trying to convert it to a western style democracy.

When you find your source for that claim, be sure and post it.

As long as Islam exists, there will be no improvement. There are a couple thousand years of history to back that up.

Even if you went nuts and genocide everyone over 2 years of age and raised them as ‘us’, enough would grow up to learn the history, pine for the caliphate and restart the whole mess. You’d have to nuke the rock, wipe all traces of islam from history and even then they would find out their past because some liberal would tell them, leave out the violence of islam and make them hate us all over again.

there is no solution. They have to be quarantined from civilization and allowed to be what they are. And fought when they try escaping the blockade. Or eradicated to the man. And that ain’t gonna happen.

Harsh? Yup. Also true.
