Al-Qeada Historian Says: ISIS's Near-Term Goal Is "Vast War Inside Islam"
Slate ^ | 17 June 2014 | Ben Mathis-Lilley

[This is] what ISIS would like to happen, in their ideal world. Their ideas on this front are derived from late "al-Qaida in Iraq" founder Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's thoughts on creating "a vast war inside Islam" that would ultimately eradicate all Shiites: ...for Zarqawi and his network, savagery—particularly when directed at other Muslims—was the whole point.

The break between ISIS and al-Qaida over the former's brutality is well-known; Wright's piece puts it in context of the two groups' views of history. Al-Qaida was fighting the West; ISIS is fighting Shiites, and a vengeance that goes back more than a thousand years—and seeks to replace all secular states with a unified religious rule—apparently requires even more gruesome methods.

Let them kill each other, then mop up the remains afterward.

I never really thought about it before but how do Sunni and Shia deal with Mecca? Do they go at different times or something?

"Let them kill each other, then mop up the remains afterward."

Why bother cleaning up the human debris?
The buzzards and other road kill feeders have to eat too.

The physical possession of Mecca by the Sunnis really chaps Shiite hides, but what can they do? Possession of Mecca is one of the great sources of power for the possessors. All muslims, of either main flavor, must follow the 2 pillars of Islam just the same. That is, the 5X daily prayer to the black moon rock, and the haj done around the black moon rock at least once in a life if a muslim is able.

About 30 years ago, a gang of shiite commandos/terrorists tried to take it over, after posing as pilgrims. (A common muslim trick, along with dressing as a covered woman, or using ambulances to transport bombs. IOW, they have no shame or honor, and consider them, in fact, to be decadent infidel traits proving weakness.)

Didn’t the House of Saud hire the French Paras or Foreign Legion to go after these guys, because they didn’t want to have their own troops killing Shia and thus start the mother of all Muzz on Muzz battles, and didn’t the Paras or Legion end up using nerve gas to kill them all to avoid damaging the Holy Moon Rock and its surrounding structures during the firefight?

I don’t know. I did read the French paras had to sort it out, the rest I don’t know. But the shiites would sure like to be in charge of mecca. And you know what I think?

If i was president, I would have entire black ops teams whos soul job was committing atrocities and making it look like it was shia against sunni and vice versa. I would create so much tension and chaos that muslims would be able to concentrate on nothing else but revenge against the other sect

yes and apparently they the French Paras also converted to Islam (for a day!) otherwise they were not allowed into Mecca. (Not accessible to non-muslims. i.e. normal people not consumed by the cult of death!)

As long as there is not a lot left living for civilization to have to deal with.

Killing themselves into extinction would be the best outcome.

The Grand Mosque was seized in 1979 by Sunni Salafis who considered the Saudi royals to be decadent, corrupt and westernized, which is more or less accurate. IOW, they were Sunni Muslims even more extremist than the Wahhabis.

There are Five Pillars of Islam, not two:

Shahadah: declaring there is no god except God, and Muhammad is God’s Messenger

Salat: ritual prayer five times a day

Zakat: giving 2.5% of one’s savings to the poor and needy

Sawm: fasting and self-control during the blessed month of Ramadan

Hajj: pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a lifetime if he/she is able to

My sentiments exactly. Why all this handwringing?
Just sit back and enjoy watching these troglodites
kill each other. Muslim-on-Muslim violence is always in our best interest.

There’s a bit more finesse than that. ISIS has been equipped with new vehicles and weapons, and the blitzkrieg-style effectiveness of their strategy indicates that some military professionals are backing them up.

The first of these are likely former officers of Saddam, whose entire purpose is to take over Iraq again, as a Sunni run nation with a majority that are Shiites. Importantly, Ba’athists are only marginally Muslim; their philosophy is more like that of a communist dictatorship.

While only marginally Muslim, they are Sunni Muslim, which means that Saudi Arabia will support them against Shiites.

This support would likely include funding and logistics, once again the answer to who is providing the vehicles and weapons.

“Let them kill one-another.” That’s precisely why the US is cozying up to Shiite Iran. It’s the balance of power tactic, Sunnis against Shiites.
