Told They’re Discriminatory, Student Christian Fellowship Kicked Off Campus

The New York Times today reports on a disturbing development at Bowdoin College:

For 40 years, evangelicals at Bowdoin College have gathered periodically to study the Bible together, to pray and to worship. They are a tiny minority on the liberal arts college campus, but they have been a part of the school’s community, gathering in the chapel, the dining center, the dorms.

After this summer, the Bowdoin Christian Fellowship will no longer be recognized by the college. Already, the college has disabled the electronic key cards of the group’s longtime volunteer advisers. …

The students, who plan to meet informally in the fall and may seek an off-campus site for worship, are bewildered by the turn of events. “We can’t discriminate on religion, and we’re a religious group!” exclaimed Olivia Cannon, 18, a Bowdoin student.

Is this what the Left means by tolerance and diversity?

Sounds like fascism by another Ivy-covered North Korea.

When I was in school there were several black only organizations. Can you picture a white only organization?

The Roman empire discriminated against Christians.

Seems those times are returning.

We all know the left wants to eliminate Christianity. This is the beginning.

I wonder what General Chamberlain's current RPM is? [Hero of Little Round Top, MoH, President of Bowdoin, Alum of Bowdoin, Gov. of Maine!] When these 'College' Administrators look in their mirror's, is there a reflection?

If a christian bakery can be forced to make a cake for a gay couple, what cant a university be forced to recognize a christian group?

Some of the larger Christian legal funds need to file truly gigantic lawsuits against these schools, intending to so shock the administrations that they back off.

These lawsuits will have to be carefully designed to have angles so that they are not immediately dismissed by judges; and there is no real intent they be fought in court. The idea is to rattle these colleges alumni, as well as their insurance underwriters.

The message to the former is simple: why give money to a college only to have it lost in litigation? And to the latter: that their exposure in underwriting this college is so great that it is not worth it.

Hey if you have a gay, Satanic, Islamic, or anti -American group, no problem. I wonder what would happen to a Christian if he tried to join one of the LGBT groups? I’d be interested to see how non-discriminatory the’d be...

refuse to agree to the nondiscrimination policies

In other words thought crimes; ie. failure to WORSHIP homosexuality as only right and true lifestyle. Sorry for “shouting” the worship; but that is key. We are no longer allowed to “live and let live”; we must worship their lifestyle and admire them for it. When we see “the kiss” from the newest NFL player and his b/f we must not only watch in wonder but clap and cheer. Anything else is intolerant.

Ahh, good question. The answer is that we are no longer just supposed to tolerate the lifestyle but worship it.

The most famous president of Bowdoin, Gen. Jushua Lawrence Chamberlain, must be rolling over in his grave.

Your's is a polite observation.
Gen. Chamberlain lost a lot of good men, friends and neighbors all, in his commitment to preserve our nation.
I suspect it is more likely he is trying to figure out how to return and knock some heads.

Chamberlain was given a two-year sabbatical in 1862 to study in Europe. He could have sat out the Civil War in the comfort of university libraries instead of standing on the bloodiest battlefields ever in America. What professor today at Bowdoin, or elsewhere, would choose today as Chamberlain did?

The same thing happened at Vanderbilt University to the Catholic group.

These are the results of an immoral culture which predominates.
