The second-highest ranking Republican in the House goes down, and no one saw it coming
Everyone--the pundits, the pollsters, the pols, the hacks, the flacks, the friends, the supporters, the opponents, the winner, the loserwas shocked by Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantors crushing primary defeat by a man named David Brat, a little-known economics professor who will likely be the next congressman from Virginias District Seven.
In a wholly unexpected upset, Brat took down the second most powerful Republican in the House, a lawmaker with 13 years of hard-earned Beltway clout who was within arms reach of becoming the next Speaker of the House. Brats victory represents the greatest coup yet for voters and candidates closely aligned with the insurgent tea party faction of the Republican Party and who see todays GOP leaders as insufficiently willing to hold the line on conservative issues.
For a sense of just how unexpected Cantors loss was, Tuesdays upset was the first time a sitting House Majority Leader has lost a race since the job was created at the turn of the centurythe nineteenth century.

Reminds me of election returns in 1994 Republican wave. Bernie Shaw was at the desk and he said something like, NY Governor, Cuomo and Pataki, no surprise there. He started to turn the page. Then he said WHOA!
Hopefully, this is the beginning of many CNN ‘WHOA’s’.
How off was the polling data external or internal?
So now we're "insurgents"? That's kind of cool. The media only uses that term for the enemies of America because they can't call them "terrorists".
Now we have arrived if the media is calling American, voting, Conservatives "insurgents"...

Yes, there is, although the rest of the article attempted to deny it. Brat hammered Cantor on one issue: immigration. Just because an open-borders promoter like Graham won on the same night does not obviate the fact. And the reason it worked is that the electorate sees the outrageous Children's Crusade pictures and hears the Washington Establishment stating that they're going to immigration "reform" down the country's collective throat because they know what's best and it isn't what the electorate wants. Cantor lost because he was one of them, not one of us. It's that simple.
Great point, Grae. Are there enough handcuffs to chain every lawbreaker to their bunk and keep them incommunicado (to use a Latin phrase) from the outside world? That's what happens to U.S. vets caught in stinking Me-hee-Ko.
I'm not being too sarcastic, but if we treated every illegal like the Mexicans do, the world would demand a UN peacekeeping force deployed to most of our country for human rights violations.
Aim for the blue helmet.
Lots of locking plastic ties work better on “the children” than handcuffs do.
The Federal Politicians have refused to enforce their own laws from 1986 till noe.
And now it is time, - - - time for a change.
That’s a good day’s work1
I saw a screen on CNN Tuesday night that said Cantor’s own poll had him ahead 62-38.
Guess he’ll learn not to trust that polling company. Can he demand a refund?
An inch below the edge of the blue helmet makes the Kevlar irrelevant.
Gobsmacked is a good word
