Our Cover Story this morning deals with children grappling with a very grown-up issue: gender identity -- boys or girls believing they're the opposite sex, saying they were born this way. Here's Rita Braver:

She could be any 12-year-old girl, hanging out with her mom and sister, but Zoey was biologically born a boy.

"So how did you handle it when people related to you as a boy?" asked Braver.

"Yeah, I always get upset," she replied. "I would be like, 'No, I'm not a boy. I'm a girl. You know, like, I like the color pink, I scream like a girl. I act like a girl. I breathe like a girl. I'm not a boy.""

the leftists say that we are a ‘hetero-normative” society, and that this is bad to have such social norms.

The leftists also say that we are too hung up with genitalia in the trans-sexual discussions.

One the one hand, the left dismisses the idea of gender norms or social norms. On the other hand, they claim that a boy who behaves according to female social norms is a girl.

I don’t understand the liberal mind.

I also cringe at the thought of sexual identity choices in pre pubescent children.

If someone really feels like a girl trapped in a boy’s body and all that, this subject is best explored with mental health professionals when one is an adult. This subject has no place among children, in my opinion.

And it wouldn’t be an issue if a child did not have liberal enabling parents.

Hilarious though that being a “girl” has nothing to do with your biology, but is nothing more than a series of social cues that some dude can mimic.

I raised tomboys - girls who play outdoors and get muddy - but they are definitely girls. I also raised boys, and on occasion they have worn and even liked pink, but I have never thought “oh, he likes the pink shirt, I should castrate my son”. These parents are child abusers, and the physicians are engaged in a particularly sick form of malpractice. Just as it’s wrong to amputate the legs from a person with body identity disorder, it’s wrong to amputate genitalia simply because of mental illness (and, yes, denying reality is mental illness).

” Born like that” covers a multitude of birth defects- ALL of which medical science tries to FIX! You don’t lop off baby’s head because it has hydrocephalus, and you don’t lop off a toddlers penis because he thinks he’s a girl. You help him, psychologically. If your two year old insists he’s a dog, you don’t feed him on the floor and walk him on a leash, but if he thinks he’s a girl you dress him in ruffles and bows and call him ‘she’? This mental illness- like homosexuality- has become a politically protected disability.
Funny how brain/thinking aberrations are ‘hands off’, but bodies can be mutilated to match the aberrant thinking.

It’s funny, in a sick way. If gender neutrality is the goal then promoting transgender-ism is only going to make boys switch to girls, and girls to boys- and you STILL have two different sexes( only swapped). Guess they haven’t figured a way to suggest children are born with NO sexual identity at all...yet.If that happens, if sexual identity is completely erased, then the human race ends. Probably the ultimate goal.

we've gone from "don't play with dolls Johnny, dolls are for girls" to "it's ok if Johnny wants to play with a doll" to "johnny wants to play with dolls -- he must be a girl trapped in boy's body, let's all pretend he's a girl."

I really wish people would pay more attention to brain research. A couple of years ago, it was determined that the human brain does not completely sync-up (make all connections) until about 25 for females, and 27-28 for males. If we now know this, such drastic, yes drastic, surgeries such as "gender reassignment" should not be done until the person is fully capable of understanding the ramifications of such surgery. That young children are being so confused by this and allowed to play-out being other than the gender they were born as, is a sin. That's it -- we are in a state of sin for pushing such things and allowing such things to happen.

I also have a problem with the number of suicides that occur in the "transgender" category. I guess that is something else that we should just allow to happen. I suppose it would never occur to these people, that those of us who think we should not be doing this to young children, are actually the compassionate ones.
