Yes, you’re right. All valid questions.

Yeah. Emptying the asylums onto main street was regarded as an act of kindness by the left. (At least that’s what they claimed!)

As governor of California, Not Ronaldus Magnus' brightest moment. He did not propose turning all nut jobs in California loose, but he did not veto the law, either.

The mildest ultimate result of that, nationwide, was the creation of the gigantic, growing homeless subculture.

He's not mentally ill.
He's evil.

Those two states are not mutually exclusive.

Hopefully, since he is bi-racial, the media will let this story die, as I firmly believe the media gives these mass or spree killers too much attention, and encourages others.

there is no legal definition of “evil”, except in a theocracy.

Aha!
Another pro-sodomite heard from.

Yes. But for once I’m fortunate to live in California for that reason.

She moved out and was later found dead at her new digs. The family is rather vague on the circumstances.

A dear friend, professional colleague, competent engineer, who lost her way, and her mind.

Problem with totalitarian governments we’ve seen is that you don’t have to be mentally ill to be “disappeared” by the government.

The government only has to say you are mentally ill. A favorite tactic of the Soviets and Chinese.

*sigh* Yes. As painful as it is, I would rather live in a world where random crazy people occasionally flip out and kill a few people, than in a world where a government systematically and deliberately kills their own inconvenient citizens wholesale.

So true. I meant to bring that up myself. Homelessness, and all the civility problems that go with it. Seattle is the best I example I personally know of, though I guess that SF is similar, if not worse.

So even if these people are harmless, and most actually are, is this humane? Is this civilized?

"...Unfortunately, the hypocrisy on this board often parallels the hypocrisy of the left. The predominant theme amongst us is “Get the damn government out of my life..."

I disagree with your assertion. Your assertion implies that conservatives don't want ANY government, and nothing could be further from the truth. We are conservatives here, not anarchists.

We understand the value of law and order that is provided by a reasonably sized government, and we abhor the bloated monstrosity of a government that can tell you how much water your toilet should use and what kind of lightbulb to put in a lamp.

It is a meme of the Left that conservatives hate all government and all taxes, and it just isn't true. Only a liberal would think so, because that allows them to level their charge of hypocrisy, as you just have.

Your signup date says you have only been around here a few months. I suggest you read posts more carefully before making that kind of statement.

It is easy to know the criteria, because anyone who is prescribed with anti-psychotics has been proven to be unfit in the society.

Then anyone the government wants to lock up will first be given an obamacare physical and then given a scrip for anti-psychotics on their way to lock up where they will be forcibly drugged.

You don't want to give the government that kind of power.

We do have a problem. There should be a mechanism for isolating someone from society. Every society up until the last 30 years has had something in place to remove people who are dangerous, even though they may have committed no crime.

It wasn't perfect. But since the 1960's-1970's, there has been a movement to make it so difficult to institutionalize some people that those who should be obviously institutionalized for their OWN safety (not to mention the safety of others) simply cannot be committed.

There has to be some reasonable middle ground, and a way to get there, but the answer simply isn't to make it impossible to institutionalize someone until they kill someone else.

I would like to recommend a book on this topic—Madness in the Streets by Rael Jean Isaac. I don’t agree with her on everything, but she provides some valuable historical perspectives. What I found most interesting is the way mental illness has been portrayed, romanticized, even, in the culture, according to her. Mostly in movies and novels.

Yes, and in a better world, where the government isn’t run by people, people who hate people, (sorry, Barbara Streisand moment) that would be best.

Unfortunately the cards we’ve been dealt don’t currently allow moderation and reason in public discourse.

I’ll settle for the slight possibility of a random death at the hands of an individual wacko over the near certainty of extermination at the hands of a criminally insane government and its agents.

Perhaps our children will be blessed by advances in medicine and psychology that will allow accurate and objective identification and effective treatment of the true psychopaths and dangerously insane.

If the family tipped off the cops weeks ago good on them. They just sheltered themselves from liability too.

The family will cut a fairly small deal with the other families in exchange for testimony against the city/county/state. That's where the really big money will come from.

“Then anyone the government wants to lock up will first be given an obamacare physical and then given a scrip for anti-psychotics on their way to lock up where they will be forcibly drugged.”

The gubmint doesn’t need any prescription if they want to lock or silence people.

My reasoning is similar to felons and ownership. If you have been found to be incapable of reason and have acted on your impulse, you lose many rights.
