A couple of observations: (1) I agree with your theory. West knows OpSec. (2) To those who keep saying this is an "I know a guy who knows a guy" story, re-read the article. West says he spoke to someone whose friend was on the roof. This person on the roof is one of the two dead. This does not mean the person West was speaking with was not there at the compound. Could be a survivor.

Agree. And a survivor would want to reveal info to someone he could trust, who has actually been in battle. Hence Allan West in whatever manner that occurred.
