May 22, 2014, 09:39 am 50 senators call for Redskins name change

By Mario Trujillo

Fifty Democratic senators are pushing the NFL to change the name of the Washington Redskins.

In a letter sent Thursday to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday, the group urged him to follow the lead of the NBA in punishing Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for making racially insensitive remarks.

"The despicable comments made by Mr. Sterling have opened up a national conversation about race relations," said the letter spearheaded by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.). "We believe this conversation is an opportunity for the NFL to take action to remove the racial slur from the name of one of its marquee franchises."

Reid and other Democratic leaders have long called for a name change, but the letter signals the largest collective call in Congress.

The senators pointed to a number of federal laws that protect Native Americans. And they lamented the "racial slur" that Native Americans are made to watch on Sundays.

"Every Sunday during football season, the Washington, D.C. football team mocks their culture," the senators said.

"The NFL can no longer ignore this and perpetuate the use of this name as anything but what it is: a racial slur. We urge the NFL to formally support and push for a name change for the Washington football team," they added.

Only five Democratic senators did not sign the letter, including both Virginia senators, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine. Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.), a centrist lawmaker who is locked in a tough reelection fight, also did not sign the letter, along with Sens. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.).

Change the name to the Washington Morons and have pictures of the members of the Senate on each side of the helmet on twenty-five of the players; the POTUS and VPOTUS on another’s helmet, and the members of the cabinet secretaries on six other players’ helmets; the mayor and Delegate to the House of Representatives for the District of Columbia on another player’s helmet, and I am certain we can find a few more morons for the remaining player’s helmets.

I call for the entire senate to be ended.

I call for every senator and every member of their staff to be fired, given no pension, and never replaced.

I call for the entire chamber to be filled from floor to ceiling with concrete, and the doors to be wielded shut.

OK, so they want to change the name for some spurious reason unsupported by the majority of Native Americans in this country.

What can they call themselves? The DC Bubble? Washington Bloat? Mismanagement?

Oh, I know. The Washington Emperors. That’s got a nice ring to it and is highly apropos.

50 senators is a critical mass, almost a majority.

So what are they going to do? Pass a bill which compels teams to get rid of American Indian nicknames????

And if so, begs the questions, about what the heck are they doing with their time? Why is it a matter of national importance, as to what nicknames sports teams have????

If it were up to me, I would vote no on any legislation in this area, from the standpoint that Congress has no reason to get involved in the area of sports team nicknames.

I'm shocked it wasn't 100%.  Is there even one Senator deserving of the position these days?

In a rational society which honors the right of ownership, the owner of private property has the right to decide how to use and dispose of his own property. That is the way to avoid many disputes and conflicts. In a libtard society, force, might makes right, and the ends justify the means is what decides how disputes and conflicts are settled.

Can’t believe they are spending their time on this when there are so many unemployed people. Shouldn’t they be trying to create jobs?

Sorry, couldn’t resist using their own words.
