Pennsylvania Governor Won’t Fight Ruling That Allows Gay Marriage

Gov. Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania said Wednesday that he would not appeal a judge’s ruling striking down Pennsylvania’s ban on same-sex marriage.

With the decision, Pennsylvania became the 19th state, along with the District of Columbia, where same-sex couples are able to marry. Judge John E. Jones III of Federal District Court on Tuesday became the latest judge to throw out a series of state bans around the country, writing, “It is time to discard them into the ash heap of history.”

Mr. Corbett, a Republican facing a difficult re-election this year, announced his decision the day after Democratic primary voters picked Tom Wolf, a wealthy businessman, to challenge him. Polls show a majority of Pennsylvanians favor legalizing same-sex marriage. Had the governor appealed the court’s decision, he risked handing his opponent a potent issue on which to drive Democrats to vote.

Republican Party: this is one big reason why I ignore your mailings and your phone calls. Not a single thin dime.

I will choose candidates I trust to support. Not the party.

I am generally inclined to hold my nose and vote for the RINO when the Democrat alternative is worse. Not this time. Social conservatives should boycott this election in Pennsylvania. Let Corbett sink. Liberals and RINOs understand two things: money and votes. Take away the votes and let the Democrats get the patronage this time, and try again in 2018.

I've been watching "The World At War", a documentary made in the early 70's about WWII.

It is depressing to learn how the propaganda machine of Hitler, et al turned an entire society against the Jews. Depressing because I see it happening here against Christians. How long before any questionnaire one has to complete asks if you are a Christian? How long then afterward will Christians be denied permits to do business, buy things, build, walk or vacation where they want.

Like the saying goes, those that forget history are doomed to repeat it.

He can do that? That isn't the job of the legislature? Wow. Powerful position.

You will need a better explanation of how making the democrats more powerful helps conservatives.

The Pennsylvania governorship does not affect the Federal legislature, at least in the 2015-18 period. Redistricting does not occur until 2021. Punishing that state’s RINO governor is a relatively low risk way to punish the cowardly GOP-E for its duplicity on this social issue. Sometimes a strategic fallback is good strategy. It worked for George Washington during the War for Independence.
