Corbett says Pennsylvania won't appeal same-sex marriage case

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania's governor says he won't appeal a court decision that struck down the state's gay marriage ban.

Gov. Tom Corbett's decision Wednesday means that same-sex marriage will remain legal in Pennsylvania, without the threat that a higher court will reinstate the ban.

"I have thoroughly reviewed Judge Jones' opinion in the Whitewood case. Given the high legal threshold set forth by Judge Jones in this case, the case is extremely unlikely to succeed on appeal. Therefore, after review of the opinion and on the advice of my Commonwealth legal team, I have decided not to appeal Judge Jones' decision," Corbett said.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Court Judge John Jones III struck down Pennsylvania's 1996 law banning recognition of gay marriage, calling it unconstitutional.

Corbett's decision goes against his political beliefs. He opposes same-sex marriage and supported thus-far unsuccessful efforts to amend the state constitution to ban gay marriage.

**I** don’t want the Commie creep Wolf to win, but in reality, Corbett richly deserves defeat. Bob

Am I the only one who’s noticed that no matter who we vote for, the Leftist agenda steadily advances?

So all I can say about this RINO is...maybe Santorum has a reason to be the Pennsylvania governor.

Maybe someone from PA could tell me if such a thing would have legs.

Near as I can tell Mr. Corbett is a stone fraud.

No, you’re not the only one.....But one needs to remember it’s not just a leftist agenda contending with...it’s a Globalist Agenda where the powerful are preparing/working for their seats at that table and the power it will weld.... Unless one views US politics within that sphere of operations they will not see the picture as it is.

No appeal of the gay marriage ban, support for medical marijuana...there’s a guy afraid of losing his job.

No, Santorum lost his last election by 20 points. He’s finished in PA, I’m afraid.

He shouldn’t appeal it. He and the REST of the governors involved should grow a set and IGNORE it. The Courts have NO RIGHT to redefine marriage - PERIOD.

Yes, we can count on Corbett to defend the 2nd Amendment with his last drop of blood if necessary, or at least until the polls on the issue start to go south on him. Bob

He lost by 17 points, thanks to establishment advisers, and his own willingness to compromise with the progressives on issues such as Every Child Left Behind. Bob

What happens if one of these appeals cases makes it to the USSC which upholds Section 2 of DOMA? Does the state law then become fully effective again?

Loser. Let’s hope the voters punish this sack of turd.

What's the use?

The judge's decision was handed down on PA primary day.

If one appointed FEDERAL Judge can overturn the STATE voters and their General Assembly, why even bother to have elections?

Santorum is not well liked in PA. He has antagonized so many people, they won't support him for dog catcher.

Something to know about PA Republicans — they are almost always liberal. Take a look at past Republican governors. Nearly all of them supported and promoted the liberal agenda. They have all been more tax and spend than the Democrats. They support the expansion of the nanny state. And you can forget about social issues like abortion and gay “marriage. “

I've lived in PA all my 61 years. It really doesn't matter who I vote for. Republican or Democrat — they are all the same.

I called Corbett’s office and sent him an e-mail this morning urging him to take immediate action to appeal yesterday’s court ruling to overturn the ban on so-called “gay marriage”. I complained how this is an act of judicial tyranny and it absolutely infuriates me that a single judge can just come along and arbitrarily overturn the will of Pennsylvania voters. Alas, it now turns out our sitting “Republican” governor can’t even be bothered to take a stand for the majority of Pennsylvanians who voted for traditional marriage and at least make a token attempt to appeal the decision.

Needless to say, Corbett will not get one more dime from me. I’m finished with him.

I’ve also now come to a sobering revelation over the past day and it absolutely CRUSHES me to espouse this... But I think I’ve reached the point where I’ve fallen out of love with America.

Actually, maybe I can better state it this way... I LOVE this country as it was founded. I LOVE the traditions and institutions that made the United States of America the greatest in the history of the world and I will forever embrace and uphold these ideals for as long as I live.

Yet I’ve also come to HATE what this culture and overall collection of humanity has become over the past six or so years. It tempts me to want to move my lovely wife and I out to some remote rural location so we can divorce ourselves from the rest of this completely insane and sick society and allow it to complete its unmistakable suicide mission.

But then I remain torn because I know America is the last hope on earth for mankind and I just can’t fully bring myself to jump ship and allow these evil, satanic progressive leftists to burn it all to the ground. And as Memorial Day approaches, I remember and give thanks to all the brave men and women, past and present, who laid down their lives to pave the way for the rest of us. And then I take comfort in my deeply held faith that God is good, that He is ultimately in charge, and will never give us more than we can handle.

So, as hopeless as everything seems, we march onward...
