Zero Hedge
Where you exist in your familys birth order can profoundly inform your path in life, whether because of genetics or simply the way that family members tend to treat firstborns vs. middle children vs. youngest children. Psychologists have been debating the Why? since the 1800s, but, as ConvergEx's Nick Colas notes, the outcome is certain regardless of the cause the effects of birth order last for a lifetime...
For example, firstborn kids are often rules-following and do better in society, while younger children tend to be revolutionaries, artists and so forth. Only children generally act like firstborns. Todays Note from ConvergEx explains how birth order matters through the lens of a top 10 list of things you should know about birth order psychology. After all, much of business and investing depends on your ability to evaluate people, and this is another useful tool.
Note From Nick: If you had to size up a stranger and you could only ask them one question, what would it be? For me, the answer is simple: Where are you in the birth order of your siblings? Are you a first/only child, or a later born? As Beth outlines today, the answer is quite telling. By virtue of genetics or childrearing (the debate rages there), birth order matters a lot to the person you become.
Question: What do Hillary Clinton, Marissa Mayer, Oprah Winfrey and Beyoncé have in common? Answer: They are all firstborn girls. Who all happen to be on the Forbes list of most powerful women in the world. And if you consult findings from the vast field of birth order psychology, youll see that there is probably more than coincidence

My husband and I are both second-born in the line. We’ve been married for more than 30 years.
My husband and I are both middles and both fairly easygoing. IMO, middles are the easiest to get along with. I see it in my own children, as well.
Middles learn to negotiate, and also from necessity, to develop a sense of humour. My husband and I can still make each other laugh ourselves silly. It’s a very good thing.
LOL I love top ten lists also. Just the other day I was reading the top ten best and worst places to retire. Before that, the top ten beaches in America.
I guess we need a top ten list of top ten lists.
I, personally, am wondering if there is a mental illness associated with a compulsion to read top 10 lists.
You’ll like this then:
Top 10 List of Lists...
“Adopted children over the age of five bring their birth order with them”
which suggests whatever it is that birth order actually influences, that influence is already set by age 5
so, what might the dynamics of that be on a child who is the “last born” from age 1 to five, with two older siblings, and during age six becomes an “older sibling” to another child, and again at age 9 - do they obtain both “last born” and “middle child” influences or is the “last born” influence already prime by age six and being the “older sibling” to two others is not an active influence????
I found this list (9 Signs Your Cat Loves You - http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3153256/posts ) rather disturbing. Contrary to the title, twice the article promised 10 signs. When I got to the end of the list, I wore myself out looking for a link to the rest of the article. Where’s #10? There has to be a #10. Then I realized, #10 must be when he keeps your secrets. He never told anyone how much chocolate ice cream it took me to get over that. Good kitty!
How about ten top ten top ten lists written by 10th children , posted on the tenth day of the tenth month?
Sure! Why not?
Your tag isn’t interesting...
I knew when I was typing it that my comment wasn’t half as funny as I thought it was...
It made me laugh. I tried to respond in kind, but my funny bone is sprained.
