Protests Swell at Beverly Hills Hotel
Wall Street Journal ^ | May 8, 2014 | By Tamara Audi, Craig Karmin, Erich Schwartzel

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.--The pink stucco palace known as the Beverly Hills Hotel has long been a symbol of Hollywood glamour and affluence, the place where Elizabeth Taylor decamped for six of her eight honeymoons. Now it's become the unlikely epicenter of protest against a new set of harsh laws enacted by the Islamic country of Brunei.

The opulent hotel is part of the Dorchester Collection, a luxury chain owned by the Sultan of Brunei. This week, the tiny, oil-rich southeast Asian country set off a storm of celebrity protests and boycotts by introducing Islamic laws that include death by stoning for homosexuals and adulterers.

Over the past several days, 20 events have been canceled at the Beverly Hills property--a loss of about $2 million in revenue for the hotel, according to Dorchester. Local politicians and celebrities are also boycotting the nearby Hotel Bel Air in Los Angeles, the hotel's more subdued sister property.

Big names like Jay Leno and Ellen DeGeneres are urging boycotts, and the Beverly Hills mayor and council are calling for Dorchester to sell the famed hotel.

Dorchester, which runs 10 hotels world-wide, is looking to expand globally and has said it is seeking to acquire a luxury property in New York. Hotel analysts say the publicity surrounding protests against the company could complicate efforts to operate a Manhattan hotel, where there is also opposition to the new law.

The participation of Hollywood's A-list in the boycott has been painful because the hotel has long been a see-and-be-seen spot to eat, sleep and fundraise. The hotel's Polo Lounge restaurant is one of this city's prime power-lunch spots. One event earlier this year attracted stars including Will Smith and Sandra Bullock. . .

Hmm. When will they figure out that the Palestinians would do the same or worse to women if they got a chance?

There are several things wrong with your question:

1. Liberals never care about women. There are already plenty of honor killings and other muslim horrors against women going on regularly in Western countries and no liberals care about any of that. Cultural Diversity is way higher on the Liberal Totem Pole than "women's rights". Way higher.

2. This is all about "gay rights" which is also higher on the totem pole (way higher) than "women's rights" (which is actually pretty low). The liberals in this instance (the hotel) are concerned about "gay rights" not "women's rights".

3. Hatred of Israel is higher on the totem pole than "gay rights" so even if the Pali's started stoning gays (unlikely, since they know how to play the Western liberal game), they still would be forgiven since hating Israel ranks so high up on the totem pole.

The liberals have a very strict hierarchy and their Totem Pole is made of stone. Women are near the bottom (pretty much only get lip-service), gays near the top... but nothing is higher than hating Israel. Nothing.

Did they have the hags dressed as vaginas there?

This is a protest that I can strongly support.

It’s disgusting how women are treated by these creatures.

I long for the day when some scientist discovers a new, clean source of energy and leaves all these oil-rich havens of evil flat broke. ... I hope it’s a female scientist that does it, and I hope she’s a Jew :-)

...stoning for homosexuals and adulterers...

I can see why Hollywood types would have a problem.

There goes the transient occupancy tax. With $2 million in lost bookings, the city lost $40,000 so far.

I’ve often wondered about that. Women in muslim countries are treated worse than dirt, how come we never have any protests against that?

Yesterday the Hollywood “bullysexuals” attacked the owner of the Beverly hills hotel simply because of his Islamic beliefs...yesterday OBAMA signed tax, financial and personal disclosure agreements to expose ever arab or religious individual to the attacks of “bullysexuals”

I wasn’t kidding about the Totem Pole. Not that there is an actual physical totem pole... but there is a strict hierarchy of Liberal Causes... and “women’s rights” are very near the bottom, especially with the liberal women themselves. They are like self-hating Jews who put EVERY other “cause” above their own — and most especially the muzzie right to beat them, chain them and enslave them — above their own freedom and worth as human beings.

I’d put abortion way up on the totem pole, but that’s not the same as women’s rights.

Actually, I love this story. Just like in the Mozilla and Sterling cases, parties have attacked and discredited because of personal views. And in each of those cases, people have the choice to take their business elsewhere. That’s the free market.

It’s about time that Islam views were attacked and discredited. Let’s hear the libtards explain why this is different than Mozilla or Sterling.

I am glad Jay Leno quoted Edmund Burke

The people at Guinness apparently did not get the memo because Guinness is still on the bar menu at the Hotel:

Women’s Rights didn’t knock down the WTC.
Remember, the libs almost kept Clarence Thomas off the Supreme Court for telling a dirty joke. Now they allow women to be enslaved.

Your ranking seems correct. What would you put at the top of the totem pole? Hatred of Israel or politically correct speech or what?

I’ve often wondered what lieberals value most above all their other concerns (which are so many it seems impossible to live like that, to me, because it seems one would be constantly worried about offending someone or doing something offensive)

It seems to me though if that top priority could be identified, it could be a point of attack against leftism.

You know, if they just put their differences aside and look at what makes them the same, like buggering small children, I'm sure they could find common ground.

Who am I kidding. This is the confrontation I want to see.

Want to convince me the left truly embraces it's own values? Take on these M*F*s and change their attitude.

They can't, because at heart, they believe the same thing - Totalitarian rule.
