Disgraced former President Victor Yanukovych called for urgent action to resolve the ongoing separatist violence in eastern Ukraine in a statement from Rostov-on-Don on April 21.
Yanukovych requested the immediate removal of all Ukrainian Armed Forces from the east of Ukraine, sent there as a detachment of the so-called national guard, dressed in military uniforms and armed with automatic weapons and grenades.
Yanukovych, who fled Ukraine on February 22 after being accused of ordering riot police to fire on activists demanding his removal from power, called for the immediate commencement of peaceful dialogue with the leaders of the eastern regions.

whenever Yanukovych makes a statement it should always be followed by a clip of Putin saying:
“I’m Vladimir Putin and I approve this message.”
Basic Current Events in Ukraine 101 - Language has nothing to do with what people in Ukraine want. They don't want to be annexed by Russia.
"Grasp" yourself.
Thanks for the post;ping.
from the article
“People are feeling insulted. You have called millions of people ‘terrorists’. The people have no other option except to fight for their rights, for their lives and for their children,” Yanukovych said.
Was he speaking to Harry POS Reid?
Good thread. Thanks to all posters/linkers. Current events BUMP!
Do they want to be Federalized in the European Union ?
The present Ukrainian “government” has no validity under international law.
It seems rather clear that the country is divided with the south and the east favoring, to one degree or another, aligning with Russia. Some in the western regions might prefer to "be a part" of Europe but most all are realizing that Europe neither wants or can afford another basket case to care for.
In any event, the deal is all but done. Only the timetable remains unclear. 0bama's MRE's, empty threats of sanctions and all his finger-wagging deter no one. Merkel/Europe just wants to have access to Russian energy. They are quite content to have Putin make their unsightly Ukrainian burden go away.
I believe a slight majority do.
I wouldn't if I was there (although I would want to belong to NATO).
I believe Ukrainians who want independence from Putin and the EU and who are nationalistic are broad brushed by Putin AND EU propaganda as being Right Sector --> Nazis --> Bad.
So independence there doesn't have much of a chance.
Just because more people in the south and east (compared to the north and west) want to "align" with Russia doesn't mean that a majority there do.
Anyway, my comment was about Russian annexation. The information I've seen suggests that there is not one oblast where a majority of people want to be annexed by Russia.
LOL...what?
Agreed - Kiev is being led by criminals. But there is no international law to appeal to. Anarchy rules.
