BOSTON (AP) — With security tight along the 26.2-mile route, tens of thousands of runners set out from the starting line at the Boston Marathon on Monday in a "Boston Strong" show of resilience a year after the deadly bombing. "I showed up, I'm back, and I am going to finish what I didn't finish last year," said Mary Cunningham, 50, of St. Petersburg, Fla., who was stopped a mile short of the finish line by the explosions last year.

My daughter has a friend running. We can track his progress. Doing great so far, on track for 2:26 finish. I think he got 77th last year.

Boston Wrong.
When a couple of punks brought an entire city to a stop.

Now a bazillion dollars being spent for a race.

“Boston Strong” My you know what.

Yea Boston strong all right. City wide shut down, door to
door warrantless searches. A “strong” city that was brought
to it’s knees because of its incompetent law enforcement and
weak minded residents. A “strong” city that proved to
prefer safety over freedom.

WHat is the purpose of this marathon? Who do they raise money for?

Hah!!
I ran (an completed) a marathon last year. Would challenge anyone who thinks it’s just “running down a street” to try it!
Next time you drive; set your odometer to 0 and then watch it get to 26 miles and ask yourself if you could run that far in 3 to 6 hours.
Running is a great thing to do. Taking control of ones health and fitness is why many of us like doing it.

A few morons with bombs are forcing us to spend millions in security

It will keep happening until we are bankrupt trying to protect ourselves using impossible methods

The Crusades were a response to this type of muzzie takeover, and they worked

Nephew running. Last year was his first time and he crossed the finish line about 20 minutes before the explosion.

When I was younger, I used to go to the Marathon all the time. The Boston Red Sox always had a 10am game on those days and the game would usually be over around the time most of the lead runners are coming through. I was actually at the finish line in 1979 when Bill Rodgers (an American) won the race. If you look at the YouTube footage of that finish, I am somewhere in that crowd at the 4:35 mark - just a scrawny 17-year-old kid at the time.

Back in those days, you felt like you were actually a part of it. Crowd control was "loose" to say the least. Once the lead runners went by, nobody stopped you from running out there to hand a runner a bottle of water or even run with them a little bit of the way to offer encouragement.

It's not so much fun these days and while I'm in town today, I'm staying far away from it. Way too much crowd control now and you won't be close enough to see anything. Also, I can't even begin to pronounce the names of all the Africans who have dominated these foot races in recent years.

“Running is a great thing to do. Taking control of ones health and fitness is why many of us like doing it.”

Don’t forget the elitist attitude. You know the same
attitude the bicycle enthusiasts get when they have to block
the whole road. It’s like “what can I do to make my self
better than everyone else”? “I know, I’ll be a jogger
snob and feel just as proud as a Prius owner.”

“Would challenge anyone who thinks it’s just “running down a street” to try it!”

No thanks, I have a life.

And pounding your leg joints into an early grave is really smart.

and if you work for FedEx or UPS you have to drive all the way around the city because the race cuts the city in half at Commonwealth Ave. Same for emergency personel not assigned to the Marathon. All mail boxes have also been locked since Thursday along the race route and side streets.

Wow a whole lot of assumptions in your post!

I just prefer to do things that increase my chances to not be sitting in a doctors office being treated for things that I could have a chance to prevent. I don’t really care about your opinion of me; or anyone else’s. I know what is best for me. Training for a marathon is WAY too much to do for some vanity purpose.
It takes a heck of a lot of work; and sucks at times.

My overall attitude is a conservatives attitude of self reliance and wanting to be left alone. Staying fit increases my chances of being self reliant; and not having someone needed to take care of me as I age. It wont guarantee anything; but it certainly helps the percentages.

They have a new slogan for this marathon...’Take Back the Line’...local media coverage is barf-inducing.
