At $3.67, US Regular gasoline prices are their highest since March 2013 having risen over 12% (40c) in the last 2 months. This must be great news, right? It must mean world demand is picking up and driving up prices of crude oil as global trade soars (amid a collapsing Baltic Dry and decelerating Chinese growth). This can't be related to "war premia" right? - as we noted here - because stocks (which always know best) have discounted all this tomfoolery. However, as the following chart shows, each time gas prices have surged up toards the Maginot Line of $3.80, US macro-economic fundamentals have collapsed... the only problem is, this time is different - because macro data is already weak going in (and expectations for the post-weather pop are high).

The list, Ping

The printing press effect.
Gas has jumped up about 8 cents a gallon over the past few days where I am at.
I can’t accurately judge how it has effected driving in my area because of Spring Break.
I see lots of vacancy signs and in some places it is a long time.
A friend of mine has a restaurant and it is having problems. The other ones she has has are supporting the third.
What bothers me is that people don’t seem to be talking about these hard economic times. They seem to be doing what they would normally do in life. Just weird.
I have no problem with high gas prices, particularly when people drive more and go on vacations, or, at least try to. I look at it as a “moron education tax” that needs to be paid, yearly, for the benefit of Obama voters who actually go to work (and yes, they do exist).
Eventually, they are going to learn, or admit the truth, that the lack of refineries, pipelines, and the reformulation of gasoline, virtually all caused by regulation and other liberal policies, is causing the quality of their lives to deteriorate, and to stay that way.
$3.67?! The cheapest here in San Diego is $3.99. I just paid well over $4.00. Thank you Barry for appeasing the Arabs.
Obama destabilizes Sauds and prices rocket.
Of course this is the man who said that he aimed to get prices up to EU rates of 7 dollars a gallon.
Funny (not) how when gas went to $1.92 under Bush, his name was linked with every headline, but not this president. Can’t understand it....
Over $4.00 here in Kalifornia.
I was watching one of those “conspiracy” shoes last night, it was made in 2013, where Robert Reich said “Inflation is not a good thing for the rich so they will naturally manipulate the metals market and artificially prop up the dollar.” I almost fell out of my chair.
Indeed!
My wife said she read where more people are taking what they’re calling “Stay-cations”. In other words, closer to home.
Thanks Nachum.

Waters and Acornhead were screaming for the nationalization of the oil companies when prices when up under Bush.
Premium was selling for $4.37 last night in the Clairemont area of San Diego. I’m keeping my Harley topped up. My F150 eats regular. That was selling for $4.09 at the same location. Other places are more expensive. The Harley eats about 10 cents per mile for gasoline. Harley dealer maintenance adds about 10 cents per mile. Tires are about 6 cents per mile. The F150 eats 30 cents a mile in gasoline alone.
