France's Le Pen, in Moscow, Blames EU for New 'Cold War'

Marine Le Pen, leader of France's far-right National Front, blamed the European Union for declaring a new Cold War on Russia that would hurt all concerned, Russian media reported on Saturday as she paid an official visit to Moscow.

Europe-Russia relations are at their lowest ebb in decades after President Vladimir Putin's annexation of Crimea prompted the EU to impose sanctions on dozens of prominent Russian officials and lawmakers.

However Le Pen, along with other Eurosceptic leaders of the far left and nationalist right, believe the original fault lies with Brussels for offering closer ties with Ukraine, a move Russia opposes.

"I am surprised a Cold War on Russia has been declared in the European Union," French National Front leader Le Pen said at a meeting with Sergei Naryshkin, speaker of the Russian parliament's lower house.

"It's not in line with traditional, friendly relations nor with the economic interests of our country or EU countries and harms future relations," Russian news agency Interfax quoted her as saying in its Russian-language service.

Her comments echo those of Austrian far-right leader Heinz-Christian Strache who has openly sided with Putin, condemning the EU sanctions as a farce.

Well he’s right. It is the EU that’s pushing us to war by continued expansion to the East. Putin is saying no. The EU wants us to muscle Russia economically and militarily for their advantage. Russia is a potential ally of ours with our struggles with Islam and China. Why dis them?

You are absolutely correct. The greatest threat to Western civilization is not a Russian tank. It is radical islam. Russia is more than a potential ally here. Russia is a natural ally. Yet we poke them and lecture them.

To be fair, the lack of US vision after Cold War and ambitions of the EU did ignite a new Cold War. When the Soviet Union fell, the average Russian hated the Communist and loved the Americans. Bush 41 had a gentleman’s agreement with Gorbachev to disband NATO while the Russians would disband Warsaw Pact and Europe will form the Security Council of Europe, which exists today. Except the EU/US did not disband NATO. Under Clinton it was used to intervene in Yugoslavian Civil War so the republic can be dismembered. Official reason was to protect civilians from being slaughter by the Serbs, but experts will note it was Germany and France who did not want another large continental power in the EU to challenge their dominance. Yugoslavia has a history of being a maverick. If she did join the EU she will not use the Euro and problably not abide by half the PC rules and regs the EU imposes on all their members. Russia being weak relented, then the US assured Yeltsin NATO will not expand up to the Russian border. Today the Baltic nations and Poland are part of NATO. This is the second breach in the unofficial agreement between Russia and EU. Now EU want to incorporate Ukraine via mob revolt? Guess what Russia under Putin is not going to accept EU/NATO encroachment into the former Soviet republics. Why is the EU so agressive in incorporating the rest of Eastern Europe and former Soviet republics, it is call debt. EU has run up a big budget deficit like the US and has piles of debt as the EU bailout failing EU nations like Spain, Portugal, Eire, Greece, Cyprus, and propping up France and Italy, they need more nations and their resources to back the debt other then Germany and what is left of the healthy EU nations. IAW financial motives is part of the aggressive EU expansion and the US like dupes are being pulled in under the name of NATO obligations. Today, the average Russian hates Americans because we are seen as the ones who broke the gentleman’s agreement with Gorbachev, and when their Slavic ally Serbia was manhandled by US and NATO, that was the tipping point. Pres Clinton actually yelled at PM Yeltsin at an international conference and told the PM to shut up in front of other leaders. Russians are proud and they do not like it. The mishandling of Russia after the Cold War is up there with our backing of a Jewish homeland in the Middle East. Both involve doing things assuming the opposition is backwards or too weak to do anything about it. The Arabs no longer just ride camels, drop rifles in battle and run, and the Russians are no longer drunk and incompetent. Now we have to deal with them when it was possible not to get entangled with them, unfortunately unlike the past the US is broke and the people are tire of conflict.

Certainly it seems as though Germany turning **off** their nuclear power plants so as to be more dependent on Russian gas reeks of instigating a new Cold War.

A war in which Germany switches sidesover that natural gas, in no small part due to 0bama bugging Merkel’s cell phone, too.

I hope she gets a meeting with Putin, just before the bomb goes off that turns him into exploded baloney. Thanks Tailgunner Joe.

It is officially a bad day for a Kiev Nazis when their European allies are showing up in Moscow to stub their back.
