Even within that minority of the population, more ethnic Russians opposed annexation by Russia than approved of annexation by Russia. In fact, it is a militant and very small number of separatists orchestrated by Russian intelligence services with the assistance of separatist Ukrainian officials recruited to serve as traitors to the Ukraine who are intimidating the majority local population into silence by the threat of armed force.
