Just because you can balance a ball of yarn on your head while you speak into a microphone, that doesn't qualify you for college admission.

Kimbrough, 17, who has a 3.5 GPA and belongs to her school’s prize-winning debate team, says she’s making a stand for herself and other minority applicants.

“It represents a bigger struggle than just me — making the community more diverse in a multitude of ways,” she said. “I know that is what U-M stands for. But the university cannot say it’s (diverse) if it doesn’t have equal representation.”
